Do I believe there is a good chance that this was perhaps motivated by this prof's academic niche? Yes. Am I willing to go out on a limb and speculate before more facts are known and say it is? No.

Like I said, more will likely come out of this story in the next week or so. I am not perfect but I do try not to jump to conclusions, sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail.

Most sources are now reporting four wounds, the first I read said seven and one is currently reporting six, the DA was quoted in a phone interview after the autopsy as saying; "Antoun died of 'multiple' stab wounds."

It appears that Prof. Richard T. Antoun was murdered (stabbed 6 times) by Abdulsalam Alzahrani. Prof. Richard T. Antoun had a Christian Arab grand-father and a Catholic grand-mother on different sides of his family, his parents were married in a civil ceremony in Brazil and then in a Methodist Church when they came to the USA, he has had varied links to many religions including the Quaker and the Catholic Church.

I think Antoun was also an authority on tribal law in the Arabic speaking middle east.

A few items I've found:

The Saudi consulate will pick up the costs of Zahrani's legal defense.

Antoun was of Lebanese/Syrian Christian extraction and married to a Jewish woman. He had attended several Christian churches which had not joined but is said to be a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and may also have been attending Synagogue or at least studying Judahism with his wife.

Zahrani had been reported by his room mates to the school for "acting like a terrorist."

Evidently he liked to throw temper tantrums in a local Duncan Doughnuts.

It would seem intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that al-Zahrani's motivation was based on his ethnicity and religion.

The DA is charging him with second degree murder although it has to be obvious he carried the butcher knife to Antoun's office with murder in mind and then disposed of the knife in a dumpster, proving he was mentally stable enough to try to hide his crime.

Was he a jihadi?

This is the first public indication that I have seen that he harbored any destructive thoughts.

The PC police will make sure that no one gets the idea that those destructive thoughts may have come from Islam's violent imperatives, but in reality.....

Without a doubt. And I would suggest that you wake up and smell whatever you need to smell. I have no racial or religeous bias, but I also am not blind. It is comments like yours that are keeping our american people (regardless of race or religeon) in a place of blindness.
