Sabans first year….

In their annual rivalry game, Alabama met the Tennessee Volunteers and was victorious 41–17 in Nick Saban's first "The Third Saturday in October" as head coach of Alabama.[54][55] Saban elected to kick an onside kick on the opening kickoff that Alabama recovered.[56] On the ensuing drive, Leigh Tiffin connected on a 39-yard field goal to give the Crimson Tide an early 3–0 lead.[56] Bama extended their lead to 10–0 when John Parker Wilson connected with Terry Grant on a three-yard touchdown pass.[56] The Volunteers scored their first points of the afternoon on the following drive on a two-yard Arian Foster run to make the score 10–7 entering the second quarter.[56]
Tennessee took a 14–10 lead early in the second quarter after Erik Ainge threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Luke Stocker.[56] At that point Alabama took over. D. J. Hall had two second-quarter touchdown receptions on John Parker Wilson passes of 16 and two yards .[56] Daniel Lincoln then connected on a 45-yard field goal as time expired and Alabama led 24–17 at the half.[56]
Tiffin added three more field goals to bring his total to four on the day in the second half, and Terry Grant had an eight-yard touchdown run in the fourth to give Alabama the 41–17 victory.[56] D. J. Hall and John Parker Wilson had career days for Alabama. Hall had 13 receptions for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson was 32-of-46 for 363 yards and three touchdowns.[56] The victory improved Alabama's all-time record against Tennessee to 44–38–7 (45–37–8 without NCAA vacations and forfeits).

I'm a Butch guy, even a Worley guy, but this is the SEC. a QB with a broken thumb and a predictable run game ain't gonna cut it in the SEC. Learn and evolve.

the difference:

Saban inherited a pretty competitive team with alot of talent . They have a qreat QB , some good backs, and a school record setting receiver. They beat a pretty good UT team .

Butch inherited the worst defense in UT history . A receiving corp that consists of freshmen, walkons, and a guy that was a running back last season ..and no established QB
They lost to an outstanding Bama team that may be putting together a historic dynasty.

A whole different deal

Anyone who has been around the past 7 years and is still around now is VERY patient and in my book a true fan.

Im with you! I think we are just a good QB and couple of top 5 recruiting classes away from being really good under Butch Jones. This class is already elite and we have a nice start to the 2015 class. The future is bright. CBJ will get us their.

I can not see any difference between Fulmer leaving Jamal Lewis on the sidelines as we lose to Florida and Butch playing a second rate QB to go 4-4. Both are stubborn hard headed decisions that hurt the team. It is very obvious that we are not playing our best hand.

Oregon and Alabama were beating us regardless. We tried a new QB against Florida. Worley almost beat Georgia and he beat South Carolina. I don't think anything hurt the team. We are actually 1 game better than most people would have predicted.

I'm not one for excuses, but we are playing one of the toughest schedules in recent history with one of the more under developed teams compared to the Tennessee standard.

Bama's schedule is candy compared to ours.

Butch seemed to have some surprise at how well Dobbs conducted himself . Took a couple of guys getting injured before anybody gave Brady a chance. His college missed him and the whole NFL draft missed him.

Maybe Dobbs looked different in practice? Maybe he is limited in some other way ..defense recog , learning plays , ect . Lot of unknowns that should prevent you from making a judgement.

I am intereseted to see what Butch does given the performance today

Too bad you didn't put in your application for HC what with all your insight to the inner workings of practice and such.

I love when people question the coaches who see these guys in practice for months. But hey, you saw two Qs of play so let's go with what you think. Pretty easy to sit on the couch and second guess.
