Interesting that they would go this route to uphold an NCAA suspension.

The NFL declared former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor eligible for the supplemental draft Thursday but ruled that he will not be able to play in the first five games of the 2011 season after he signs a contract.
"Pryor then applied to enter the NFL after the regular draft. Pryor had accepted at the end of the 2010 college football season a suspension for the first five games of the 2011 season for violating NCAA rules. Pryor will be ineligible to practice prior to or play in the first five games of the NFL regular season after he signs."

That is strange that the NFL would enforce the 5 game suspension. Has anything like this happened before?

I would doubt it but I kinda like it. Those guys can't run out and leave the school holding the bag.

Of course this sounds a bit hypocritical with all the fine, upstanding men still playing

In explaining the reason for Pryor's status entering the NFL, clubs were informed that Pryor made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL draft.

He's lucky he even is being allowed to enter the draft. He should just say thanks for this compromise and move on. I don't see why so many people are so furious over his five game NFL suspension.

For the team that picks this guy, was he going to contribute within the first 5 games anyway? It is not like the NFL season is as critical from a W/L standpoint as a college season is where more than 2 losses is curtains for the higher ranked programs. I think this is a foolish ruling.

probably not in the first 5 games but this says he can't even get on a practice field until those are done. So are you going to take a chance in the supp draft with a guy who can't do anything but attend meetings for 1//3 of the season?

Kudos to the NFL.

exactly. I think the NCAA is making a statement that they will not stand for kids purposely getting themselves suspended from the college game as a route to get into the NFL.

This is a great statement. :good!: :good!:

The black helicopters are circling.... This is just another attempt to save tOSU, if TP was left out of the sup draft he would have spilled the beans. Now he keeps his mouth shut and gets into the NFL..;)

I give thumbs up to the NFL for this move. If the NCAA is going to be a wussy at least the NFL will stand firm even though this happend in college.

:eek:lol: at Pryor also

Precisely. I believe that Pryor will end up suing the NFL over this and winning. He apparently signed an agreement. However, the NFL was not a party to that agreement. The NFL and the NFL player's association also have no oversight authority over misconduct of NCAA players. Finally, the agreement that Pryor signed was to miss 5 NCAA games, which had zero monetary value. Missing 5 NFL games would cost him 5 game checks. I don't think the NFL will be able to make that stick if Prior chooses to challenge it in court.

The real BS is that Prior was ever given this option to begin with. He should have missed his bowl game.

Glad to see this. Always maintained that the only effective way to curtail cheating in the ncaa is to involve the nfl.

Except they didn't have to let him in the supp. draft. They are allowing him in THIS YEAR on the condition that he agree to do his time. Otherwise he can just sit out or go to the CFL.

He shouldn't be suspended by the NFL, it's unprecidented and a mistake in my eyes.

Why wasn't Pete Carroll suspended? He was obviously running from sanctions?

On a sidenote, Pryor ran a 4.36 in his workouts, he will make a good WR if he dedicates himself to it.

Yup. He might have walked into a sweet deal. If he can slightly steal the show, I bet they sign only one of those backups and trade the other two. Didn't know he ran his 40 that fast!

I got ripped for saying this earlier. I believe he will have to play WR to make it in the league. Maybe Oakland will draft Denard Robinson next year and they will have themselves a couple of good receivers that are passing threats on the end around.
