Wilbon said, he hopes UK never wins another game. They ran Tubby off. Called UK greedy, greedy, and greedy. He also said that it must be bad with Tubby in the NCAA's and Pitino 70 miles down the road with the #1 team in the country.

He also said that UK would turn out to be like Nebraska football. He also thinks Gillispie is gone.

That was a great segment... :eek:lol:

I'm as quick to bash Kentucky as anyone, but these sentiments seem to be about 2 years too late.

Well, at least Kentucky doesn't have a lower seed in the NIT than New Mexico.

Oh, wait…

Wilbon is a moron. So easy to criticize from his air-conditioned studio in Connecticut. He's about as close to the Kentucky/Tubby situation as Chairman Mao.

Which was proven by the fact that he said Tubby had taken Ketucky to multiple/couple final fours, then had to be corrected in the errors segment.

Not to mention, Tubby contacted Minnesota first, before the season was even over. He was not ran out. If the man had recruited anywhere besides antartica he would still be there.

its all old news, if you ask me.

You don't think that had anything to do with the fan base and the athletic donors? To say he wasn't pushed out is being a little less than honest about the situation isn't it?

I agree with Wilbon's premise. He thinks the Kentucky fans have unreasonable expectations for a program that currently is simply not that good anymore. For the record PTI is filmed in D.C. because Wilbon writes for the Washington Post and T.K. used to write there as well.

You can't blame Wilbon for thinking maybe Tubby went to multiple Final Four's. I mean during Tubby's tenure they got either a #1 or #2 seed five times. It's really kind of emabarrasing that he never found his way to a Final Four except for the '98 NC with Pitino's team. As for him not being run out, that's just rediculous. He may have contacted Minnesota first, but he saw the writing on the wall at UK. Good for him for finding himself a job with more reasonable expectations.

A lot of the "national media" (read: no clue) said the same thing when Matt Doherty was forced out at North Carolina. They said the inmates were running the asylum, blah, blah. Botttom line: they had no idea what the real story was, just as they have no idea what the real story is at Kentucky regarding Tubby and Gillispie.

Personally, and I'm no UK fan, I thought Tubby needed to go. Maybe it could've been handled better by both sides, but it was a good thing for both parties at the time and even today. Looks like Gillispie might not work out, but UK needed a change and since Gillispie was not Tubby, they were happy -- even if only temporarily.

At a school like Kentucky, one Final Four every 5-6 years is NOT unreasonable.

It IS true, though, that Tubby could have done more with some of the teams he had.

This may just be me, but I felt like Tubby always overachieved with the talent he had (minus his class with Rondo, Crawford, and Morris). I felt he was a good floor coach but never brought in the talent needed. Example... I feel like Tubby would have made it to the second round last year and probably won the East this year. JMO though

Perhaps, but Tubby would not have landed Patterson.

Tubby is a great basketball coach, and there are teams all over the country who could benefit from his services. However, he was hesitant to put freshmen on the floor. His recruiting definitely took a hit because of it.

To answer some of the questions that were posed while away....

1) No, I am NOT saying that Tubby left on his own will without any pressure from UK/Alumni/Fans. Its very obvious that there was plenty of that. HOWEVER, the man was not formally fired or released. Wilbon chose to tell only ONE side of the story, which is not fair and subjective journalism as they "claim" to be.

2) Yes I CAN blame Wilbon for not knowing Tubby only went to one final four. If he is going to go on an opinionated tirade about a program such as Kentucky on national television, he should have his facts straight.

3) Tubby was NOT going to land Patrick Patterson, that is a fact.

if ppl started talkin about me losing my job, the smart thing to do would be to shop around. and im sure behind closed doors he had about as much choice "to resign" as phil did.
