Tony Cornheiser pointed out how the SEC and Slive acted so quickly & harshly on punishment against Pearl, but the Cam Newton situation does not even register with them. He said they have known about this for months, but choose not to do anything because Auburn is up for a title game and all that $$$!

......so people outside of UT fans doooo see the SEC's bias!

I love PTI but they are also biased because they have had him on the show a lot last year. But the quote is dead on because Slive is about the money. GBO

if the FBI is really involved with all of this then the NCAA/SEC become a moot point. what/how much/how long the sec has known is all questionable and at what point the fbi really became involved in all of this is questionable as well. the SEC might be under orders from the FBI to play dumb on this case until their end of it is wrapped up. because if the bank/politicians etc really are guilty in all that is being accused then one program at one member institute of one conf. is just chump change to the feds

it's blatantly obvious and it's probably the right choice if you're slime... it's better for the conference...

If the FBI is in the middle of an investigation, maybe the SEC has been told to be silent about it.

Pearl: "I did it."

Guys from a rival school: "This guy did something that may have been against the rules, but we don't have direct proof."

Gee, wonder why that gets a different reaction. We'll just have to wait and see on Auburn and Cam Newton. The Pearl situation is about done after several months, the Newton saga is just beginning.

soooo.... u agree an "official investigation" is necessary?! Auburn has yet to receive anything! Investigations are not held once proof is apprehended but rather to seek the facts!

...And by the way, where there us smoke... there is fire! When have you heard of an investigation coming up with absolutely nothing?! NCAA investigated our football team because of bogus hostessgate (which they had no proof anyone from the athletic dept. told them to go to SC) and that lead to a broad investigation over all of UT athletics... From grasping at straws, ESPN dug far enough to catch Pearl! And here we are...

Huh? Auburn has not and will not receive any disciplinary action until it's known for certain rules were broken. That hasn't been established yet. In your first post you implied that they should be hammered right now.
I don't know what the end result for Auburn will be, but it would be pretty embarrassing to suspend someone who is later cleared of any wrongdoing. What you think he did is irrelevant. What can you prove he did? Right now the answer is nothing.

Who said anything about a suspension? I am asking for an "official investigation" ...The investigation is the judge that will enviably taint or clear his name and the school!

You did. You seemed to imply the SEC didn't come down quickly and harshly on Auburn, when there's nothing to come down on them for yet. For Pearl it wasn't quick, there was an 18 month investigation. Auburn's is at less than a month.

I like Pearl, but to be fair he wasn't forthcoming till he knew he was caught.....the pic and home he didn't recognize....

Let me see if I got this right, if it is UT being investigated, it is bogus, but anyone else it's "where there's smoke there's fire". Brilliant strategy, if you can pull it off.

My point was there was an admission of guilt and therefore reason to administer penalties. In the Auburn case there is neither proof nor admission. Until there is one or the other there should be no penalties.

I had a long rant and rave on this post before......deleted it and said to myself it is what it is......no reason to speak about it any more.

I hope Newton wins the Heisman....wins Auburn a Nat'l Championship and a S.E.C. Title..........then it all gets stripped because of his precious daddy thinking he is a sports agent:

Rogers made 'stupid decision' sending Newton pay plan - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

It would simply be priceless.

The way to be silent about it would be to sit him like he sat Bruce!!! Slimey Slive protected Urban when he was pumping money into his pockets, now Barners!!! The NCAA might not have done as much as UT and Slimey have done to Bruce ($1.5 / no recruiting 2yrs /assistants same punishment/ and now suspended for 1/2 sec schedule!) Damn might as well shoot him in a knee as well!!!

Auburn paid for Newton (remember those idiots riding around in Limo's recruiting?) That shet is coming back to them now!!! Why would Cecil demand 180,000 from the school Cam wanted to play for and then suddenly switch to Auburn out of the blue!! Death Penalty to the Barners, cheatin animal doctors!!!!

I may be completely wrong..but everything I have heard is that if anyone asks for compensation on the behalf of an athlete...it makes that player ineligible. From what I've heard..it's been established that that happened...whether any money changed hands or not. SO...why could the ole commish not look into having Auburn sit him? What good is it gonna do AU to win it all...then forfeit it all? Not saying they did anything wrong other than bad judgement. For Slive...it's all dollars. Sitting Bruce costs him nothing and it's an easy call. Sitting Newton would cost money (play it out, get the money, then keep it after forfeiture).

If Newton knew nothing about his father's actions...he is the one who will pay in the end, and that's the sad part.
