Cut out the blowout scenario stuff - that is certainly possible any week but the goal is for the VOLS TO WIN OUT... Just don't get really frustrated if late season games are a struggle - each week is a different dynamic with weather adventures tossed in. You guys that have played any outdoor sport know that. Coaches are scheming to pull the upset and opponents will be psyched up. Of course the Vols are scheming as well and I look forward to see what Hooker can do with Tillman, Hyatt and Bru all ready to roll with a chip on their shoulder.

Missouri will be a tough ballgame. That team has played well and has 2 of the most snake-bit losses I have ever seen with the Auburn game - running back drops ball for a fumble at the goal line therefore creating a turnover on what should have been the winning TD - and Kentucky where a terrific special teams play that would likely have won the game turns into a personal foul penalty that costs the game. In other games with the exception of Kansas State - Missouri is very competitive. Weather conditions may play into this but remember Tennessee is still a hunted, top ranked team and will get everyone's best shot. Do not at all be surprised if this is a really close ballgame. Sure a blowout would be ideal but don't blow a gasket if it is not. I am glad this one is in Knoxville.

South Carolina in Columbia is also not a walk in the park. Again - Vols are the hunted team and will have to play well on the road and not fall into the crowd noise trap and must definitely tighten up on special teams - particularly punting. Win and stay alive...

Vanderbilt - this should be a much easier game with the crowd being for the Vols. Win and then Vols are likely in the playoffs.

Here are some ESPN scenarios:

By the numbers: Breaking down six possible College Football Playoff scenarios

If Vols win out - they can be an extremely dangerous playoff contender against anyone including the Georgia Dogs. The Tennessee strength of schedule is unquestionable and the string of high quality wins is unmatched.

If we wAnt to make the playoffs we need blow out wins. Style points matter. If Missouri is a tough game, then we aren’t as good as we thought we were.
Wrong, Georgia beat Missouri 26-22. Ohio St and Michigan have had close wins and battles against average opponents. Yes, while we want to win as much as we can unless they hold all teams under the same right guidelines the win is the ultimate thing that matters. GBO

Weather will be a factor in how we call plays tmmrw. It is what it is but I think the O line rebounds and performs well tmmrw. I expect a heavy does of the JW and Hooker on RPOs

These Vols are a pissed off team carrying a chip with something to prove about themselves to everyone. They’re going to want to blow the doors off, on both sides of the ball, of every upcoming team they play to make a statement. Style points count from here on out and they know it.
How they handle the remaining games will show us tons about the culture inside this program. I don’t think we’ll see any mercy shown to anyone.

You would think so, but Train is correct here. At this point in the season, with lesser level opponents than everyone else in the race faces, the eye test and "what have you done lately" matters a lot to the committee.

There is NO reason to pump the breaks on predictions about the final games against Missouri,South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Go pump your own breaks but don't tell any other Tennessee fans how excited they can be. I think Tennessee beats Missouri 49-21,I think Tennessee beats South Carolina 45-17 and I think Tennessee beats Vanderbilt 55-20.

If we don’t blow out the next 3 teams then we’re an LSU upset of UGA away from going 11-1 and playing in the Citrus Bowl. No playoff, no NY6, just the freakin “you can’t spell citrus without UT” Citrus Bowl.

I think an 11-1 Tennessee team no matter what will go to the Sugar Bowl if they don't make the Playoffs. If Tennessee wins out,Alabama goes 9-3 and LSU loses in the SECCG to Georgia here is how i think it will be

Tennessee vs Texas in the Sugar Bowl
LSU vs North Carolina in the Orange Bowl
Alabama vs Penn State in the ReliaQuest Bowl

Vols going to beat the brakes off the three remaining regular season opponents - one game at a time!

Go Vols!

Thanks - I completely agree with you - we need to win and not this alabama mentality of a win is not good enough - now we are disappointed that we did not blow people out. Just stop it! I hope Tennessee wins out - period! Georgia dominated Tn last week but that was not a blow out. TCU beat texas tech last week but that was not a blow out.

Mizz and south carolina are teams we can lose to.

I don't think margin of victory is going to make much difference from here on in.

I mean, if we flat-out struggle against one of the three cellar dwellers, then yes, that could influence the committee somewhat. A game decided in the final seconds could matter. Then again, maybe not: as others have pointed out, look at UGa's scores against Mizzou and Kent State...didn't hurt them much.

Aside from a nail-biter finish, though, I think it makes zero difference, absolutely zero, whether we win by 14 or win by 40.

Just win out, lads. That's all it takes.

Go Vols!

Not true. Two solid wins where we are in control of the games and a Vandy blowout will be more than enough unless freaky stuff like TCU and Oregon running the table were to happen. In that case it won't matter what we did after the Georgia loss.

Wrong. If you have listened to any of the plethora of sports broadcasters, you would know what I say is true. UGA is undefeated so that example is useless. Sorry to tell you but style points matter. Especially since we play 3 cupcakes in a row. If we don’t blow all of them out, they could easily keep us out.
