All I can say is thank Christ. Look as a lifelong Boiler fan, I have absolutely no delusions of who we are on the grand pecking order of College football. I'm not expecting CFP hunts, hell I'm not even expecting divisional championships. This is Purdue. The fan base is completely cool with just making a bowl and winning some of said bowls. So, with that said, with ND out of the OOC picture, they beat up on 3 MAC teams and snag 3 wins from the likes of Northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, MD, Rutgers, and IA. They also play spoiler to any of the tops, and you have job security in West Lafayette. This is completely doable, even with the dismal recruiting base that is Indiana. Hazel was so inept, he couldn't even manage that.
With that said, I would love to see them at least try to get Miles. I think it's the perfect fit for the guy. It is absolutely a no pressure job for someone like him, and for a guy in his sixties, does he really want to go to another high profile job who is expecting championships within a year or two? He could easily be an 8 win a year coach in the B1G west, and he'd have a street named after him and a statue of his likeness on Northwestern Ave. For a win now school, the game has passed him by. You have got to score points in bunches to win in the championship level, and he simply cannot do it.
But they will probably gamble on a group of 5 guy, the two hot ones won't even bat an eye as they have their sights set on bigger schools. I've heard the DC at Ohio State, but hell he's from the pros, he would land at the next elite opening that is bound to happen this season. So in the end they will either keep it safe and in house and go for Brock Spack, who will do decent there, or they will gamble on another Hazel and remain in the toilet where FCS schools will make Boiler fans sweat.
