...both are bad in my opinion. A right-center economic model with strong fiscal restraint and limited (albeit present) government regulation is optimal in my opinion.

Too much either way can be disasterous. I want to start this because I think opinions from some that hang around this forum would be interesting.

Well we never get either in it's pure form.

That said, I'd take my chances in a pure capitalism world over a pure socialism world any day. At a minimum, life would have much more meaning.

Pure capitalism or pure free market?

Pure capitialism tends toward the consolidation of economic power in the hands of the very few.

A pure free market in our day of communication and mobility would require some mechanism for preventing monopolies and trusts.

A "pure free market" in which the media did its job by exposing those who abused their freedom and the public did its by shunning them.... would have enough internal accountability to NOT need regulation. A "pure free market" would foster a MORE widespread sense of responsibility for one's community and world. Not less.

It is human nature to act less responsibly when someone else is assigned to be responsible. If you ever have teenagers you'll see this repeatedly. When they're with you they act like 5 year olds. When you let them go out with another family... they get rave reviews for being so responsible.

i meant pure free market but if you have a pure free market (only controlled by market forces) how would that not be a purely capitalistic system as well?

I was kind of looking for something better than this to explain but this will do in a pinch: Skeptical Eye: Capitalism vs. the Free Market

I just found that on a search and know nothing of the rest of the info there. No blanket endorsement.

Basically I would say a "pure" free market economy would be ruled by supply and demand with very minimal gov't involvement. One of the places I think invovlement would be necessary is in requiring all "employees" to become independent contractors with legal agreements concerning conduct and work.

Another is that the size of institutions would necessarily need to be controlled to prevent monopolies from forming.

Capitalism as this article suggests lends itself more to a tiered (relatively fixed classes) and centrally controlled economic system.

Capitalism is a "form" of a free market to the extent it is controlled by supply/demand.
