Haven't seen it. Just looked up the plot and it doesn't sound that good.

"A young man with a talent for music has begun a career with much promise. He meets an aspiring singer, Apollonia, and finds that talent alone isn't all that he needs. A complicated tale of his repeating his father's self destructive behavior, losing Apollonia to another singer (Morris Day), and his coming to grips with his own connection to other people ensues."

Billy it's like War of the Roses meets Rushmore meets Citizen Kane meets Oklahoma meets Barney. Revelatory soundtrack, as well.

Wasn't that great of a movie, but the music was excellent.

I saw Prince in concert a few years ago in Louisville and got pre-show access to the sound check.

No joke, the guy checking the soundcheck passes was the guy that played Billy Sparks, the club owner, in Purple Rain.

Nice guy and he humored everyone throwing movie lines at him as they walked in.
