My Honda pushmower that was a Knox County Dump reclamation project is finally starting to give up the ghost. Guy claimed the noise it was making meant it was a goner. Well, that was almost 5 years ago. Its chugged along since then with its fair share of various problems from the previous owner, but its finally toward the end (and frankly I'm ready for a new one).

Given the durability of the Honda motor, I'm inclined to go back to them. I do like the design of the Honda mowers overall (push handle, etc). I loathe self-propelled mowers, so I don't worry about that aspect. Some of the US made Briggs motors have piqued my interest. Cub Cadet has a newer model with high ratings from Consumer Reports, but its got the Powermore engine which I'm a bit leery of.

Yard is more or less level and probably .5 acre, so no special considerations as far as that goes. I always mulch, FWIW.

Any special recommendations/positive experiences people have?

Had a Honda push mower for over 14 years and never had a problem. Gave it away before I moved to Fl two years ago but I think it would have lasted another 3-4 yrs.

I've had great luck with my Troy-Bilt TB110. Briggs and Stratton motor though. It's held up like a champ even through some pretty heavy cutting.

Honda engine seems like a given at this point.

Anybody know anything about the Toro, TroyBilt, Husq., TSC brand w/ the Honda engine?

McLane Reel mower. Makes the yard look like a fairway. Rotary mowers do not cut as nice.

You won't get a better push mower than the Toro, go to a dealer instead of a big box. Avoid TroyBilt/Cub Cadet/Bolens etc as they're all garbage off of the MTD line, they're nothing like the original companies quality wise.

Husq makes a 21" steel deck that has a Honda, its a decent machine, and the price point is a little friendlier than the Toro, which I believe has a 150 Kohler now. Either one will treat you right as long as you maintain it, the deck should be rotted through before the engine dies.
