As great as much recognition Hooker has received all year, we all can finally agree that the Heisman Trophy is nothing more than a popularity contest instead of rewarding a player for his on field performance.

Personally, I’d be ok with never being associated with the Heisman again.

Hooker was great all year and kudos to the coaching staff developing into the player he is now.

How does one goes from a late season favorite to not even invited in a span of two weeks?

I haven't watched a Heisman trophy ceremony since espn screwed Peyton out of his. I wouldn't have watched this one even if Hendon had been invited. This event is extremely politicized and in my world has no meaning anymore. There are many athletes every year deserving of this type of award.

I wouldn’t even say it’s a popularity contest, as evidenced by the great heist Peyton’s senior year. He was wildly popular, but he lost because the Heisman vote became an agenda vote. For many reasons, many voters, but not all, have turned this award into a cause or preference award. Too many voters can’t put all these things aside to vote for what the Heisman was meant to be.

Hooker and Bryce Young both have better stats than S. Bennett. If this does not prove that the HeisTman is nothing but a popularity contest for who ever is "greatest" at the end then I do not know what is. I have been finished with the heisTman since 1997, time for the rest of you to join me. The university should announce that they wish never to have any of their athletes in the running for this sham of an award.

I made that decision back in 1998. I will never care one bit about the heistman.

I couldn't tell you 3 of the last 10 Hypeman trophies went too. Unfortunately it has become a meaningless trophy often used to convey/confirm other narratives - some having nothing to do with college football.

Too many voters who haven’t even played (or coached) a football team in their life…. I’m guessing the award’s namesake would be very disappointed on how his name has been misused over the past few decades.

I agree. We all know that no player from Tennessee will ever win the Heisman. Since Johnny Majors and Peyton Manning got snubbed for it, they will never vote for a Tennessee player.

I was just thinking about that this morning. I couldn't remember the last time I actually cared who won the Heisman. It's like the Oscars. It's just politics and popularity. Who cares?

I feel like I keep saying this, but the sooner you cut ties with everything espn touches, the quicker your quality of life will improve.

Heisman looses a lot of credibility with this one. Hooker and Young both deserve a trip to NY.
Hooker, Young, and Corum should be in over Bennett, Stroud, and arguably Williams. Williams has the best stats, but he lost twice to Utah and I’m not a fan of the painted nails debacle. Trashy.

I heard someone esrlier today say Blake Corum should be the Heisman winner, and he would be if had been able to play against Ohio St. I tend to agree with him.

Why so much angst over whether Hooker finished 4th, 5th, or 6th?

Super Seniors probably should have been ruled ineligible, in which case both Bennett and Hooker would be ineligible for the award. The shouldn't have been awarded the extra year. Georgia would still be undefeated with Carson Beck, BTW.

Super seniors deserve just as much as any other player but you are right Carson Beck would be right there but Take Hooker away and Tennessee isn't that alone should make him Heisman material.

The award is supposed to go to the player that contributed the most to help his team win...or from another angle, how would the team have done without the selected player? I'm thinking Tn would probably be 8-4 without Hooker. So yeah, the whole thing is a joke. Give it one year to one of Dabo's player, the next year to Saban's player, the next year Ohio St player, rinse and repeat.

Brother, billions of us expressed the exact same sentiments when they screwed Peyton. We realized then that it was a complete joke. Hate it for Hendon, of course. But many of us haven’t been paying attention to this farce since 1998.

We should launch our own award for the best college football player every year — The Neyland. And make it 100 percent legit.

Hendon, keep holding your head high — you can always truthfully say “I was too good for the Heisman.”
