As we anticipate a great signing class in Feb and 2015 is off to a fast start, the future of the QB position is one of our biggest question marks, IMO.
If Dobbs lays an egg tomorrow, we still have an unknown commodity in Ferguson and so I don't think that hurts us in recruiting.
However, if Dobbs steps up and has a stellar game, I could see recruiting momemtum hit another gear. I think we would see a commitment from Malone and increased interest from some of the big names remaining on our board. Play well this week and again against AU and having Jackson and Sharpe at the game could be HUGE!

I agree...if Dobbs doesn't play well,it won't hurt this year and if he wins the job in the spring,he has an entire year to impress recruits for 2015...if he takes off now,its nothing but positive all around except recruiting a QB... may have to wait another year for an elite QB prospect to sign...sitting one year is better than sitting 2...

Regardless of Dobbs and Furguson I hope bUTch signs a few more QB's. It can't hurt. GBO!!!

If Dobbs proves to be a winner you buy some time to get a stud in the 2015 class. I got blasted this week for saying the competence of Dobbs and Ferguson were the reason Butch was not pursuing a 2014 QB more aggressively. I still contend the fact there were only a couple of QBs in this class who Butch would have taken is proof he has confidence in the freshmen.

Should Peterman transfer and Worley will graduate next season, then that would leave at least one q.b. slot open for the 2015 recruiting class.

Dobbs graduates after 2016 season.
Fergy graduates after 2017 season.

Incoming q.b. will red-shirt in 2015 and graduate in 2019.

How many on the squad are recruits from the current coaching staff? Dobbs and Furguson I guess? Get the best possible and battle it out in practice. Competition is healthy.

From what I understand Dobbs has the "it" factor and the other players have recognized that and have gravitated towards him since spring ball. I don't know anyone on the team, this is just an observation from someone close to the football program.

The problem now, as I see it, will be that CBJ cannot afford to let Dobbs get too crazy running the football and being athletic. If Dobbs gets hurt, CBJ has to burn his other red shirt.

I think CBJ will be conservative on offense and Dobbs will have to prove his worth more with his arm than with his arm and legs.

You mean QB's right? Ferguson was a Dooley recruit IIRC.

Jones' 'signature get' in this recruiting class was Marquez North. In the 2014 class it'll be Jalen Hurd fuh sho

What CBJ can't afford is to construct a conservative offensive game plan centered around a freshman's future eligibility, ie redshirt.
The playbook will not regress, if anything it opens up, the play calling however is what has my interest.....

the worst case as far as QBs next year,is that Petermen leaves,Worley leaves because of Dobbs,Ferguson leaves because Dobbs has the job locked up,probably won't happen, but who knows ?

Man I was there when Shuler threw his first pass and I was there when Peyton threw his first pass, this kid has the so called it factor, plus with Riley we are in good shape, lets get some stud DTs or OL, the main thing is to keep what we already got as verbals from going else where think about the last 5 or 6 years on NSD.:cray:

I don't expect Dobbs to lay any eggs in the next 4 games.
If he doesn't I don't look for Fergy to stick around.
If he can come up with a hard ship reason (not that hard these days) to transfer, His stock was too high coming out of the Elite 11 this summer to sit 3 years or play in a 2 qb system.

Will be recruiting more qbs.

I agree completely. I just can't see a head coach sacrificing games because of a redshirt he wants to maintain. Coaches coach to win, Butch especially. And I'm extremely excited about both of our true freshman.

idk if I agree with u on this one. Look at how many QB's stay at Alabama & USC to play just one season.

If a QB really wants to play in the NFL then he only needs 1 really good year to prove himself when he plays in the SEC against the best teams in the country.

Sitting for 2 or 3 years with some playing time along the way and really knowing every tiny thing to really show out in his Senior year as the starter and Winning lots of games in the SEC is all a scout, GM and HC in the NFL will really need to see so it's not as bad for a NFL future as most think to sit out and learn and then stun the world in 1 year.

Alot of smart QB's know all of that and it's why some wait for their turn to come around on the really good teams.

Think about it...Did the alaBummer QB really need to come back and prove himself more after Winning 2 National Championships?

Did Peyton need to come back his last year?

Some guys only need 1 year to prove to the NFL that they deserve a chance to prove they can handle the NFL.

Look at C Patterson, 1 year at Tennessee and he's in the NFL and he still doesn't know the O or even how to run good routes yet but he's making good $$$ while he's learning after only 1 year in the SEC to show his stuff.

You can bet that bUTch will do whatever is best for our program and to WIN as many games as he can as fast as he can no matter what.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

Play to win. Don't matter if it's Dobbs, Fergy, Peterman or Worley. Compete @ 110%. If Dobbs has to run, then run hard. You don't game plan around possible injuries.
