Quarter Final locations of the CFP?

I heard the Vols would travel to the Rose Bowl should they be a 8 seed or 9 seed and win to play the 1 seed. I looked online at several websites. I don't see where each of the seeds play. Does anyone have a link?
Just Google it. You'll have a choice to view it

SEC champ-Sugar
B10-Rose
ACC-Peach
B12/Boise/UNLV-Fiesta

If Clemson wins the ACC and is the 12 seed, then one of the B12/Bosie-UNLV winner will get the Peach.

I wondered about this also, and Boston Vol this makes sense. Is this set in stone? I guess my question would be that if this is actually how it will work, why wouldn't they have already announced these in this way? As far as I know, they haven't publicly said any of this. It makes too much sense, so it can't possibly be right. ;)

According to the College Football Playoff site, it is how it will work:

The 5th bullet point states:
"The selection committee will assign the four highest-ranked conference champions to Playoff Quarterfinals hosted by bowls. This will be done in consideration of historic bowl relationships, then in consideration of rankings. For example, if the Sugar Bowl hosts a Playoff Quarterfinal and the SEC champion is ranked No. 1 and the Big 12 champion is ranked No. 3, the SEC champion would be assigned to the Sugar Bowl and the Big 12 champion would be assigned elsewhere."

If we can get through the first round as an 8 or 9 we would play in the Rose Bowl on NYD.

  1. Traditional contract-bowl relationships will be the top priority when the committee assigns teams to Playoff Quarterfinal sites, but such priority cannot be guaranteed because of the bracket. For example, if the Big 12 Conference champion were ranked No. 1 and the Southeastern Conference champion were ranked No. 2, then the Big 12 champion would be assigned to the Sugar Bowl.

The committee will use geographic proximity for the No. 1 seed when assigning the Playoff Semifinal sites.
Reads different. Kinda explanations why the seedings seem off

Playing in the Rose Bowl for the first time since world war 2 would be special.

The rose bowl is the only major bowl (cotton, fiesta, sugar, orange, peach) we haven’t won and winning it would put us in rare company.

With the four highest-ranked conference champions receiving the top four seeds and thus byes, the remaining eight teams in the bracket meet in the first round. Here are those games, played a campus sites on Dec. 20 or Dec. 21:

  • (12 seed) Arizona State at (5) Penn State — winner plays (4) Boise State in the quarterfinals
  • (11) Alabama at (6) Notre Dame — winner plays (3) SMU in the quarterfinals
  • (10) Indiana at (7) Georgia — winner plays (2) Texas in the quarterfinals
  • (9) Tennessee at (8) Ohio State — winner plays (1) Oregon in the quarterfinals
There is no re-seeding once the official bracket is revealed on Sunday, Dec. 8.

The four quarterfinal games are not played at the campus sites. Instead, these four games — scheduled on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 — will be played at the Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl and Sugar Bowl. The four highest-ranked conference champions will be assigned one of these bowls in consideration of historic bowl relationships as well as seeding.

The four quarterfinal winners will then meet in the semifinals at either the Orange Bowl or the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10. If the seeds hold, that means (1) would meet (4) and (2) would play (3). The two semifinal winners will then play on Jan. 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the national championship.

So, hypothetically, if Penn St were to beat Oregon, and Georgia were to beat TX, then Penn St would likely be seeded #1, ND #2, GA #3 and OR #4. Penn St would go to the Rose because of conference affiliation, ND would likely go to the Peach because of proximity, GA would go to the Sugar because of conference affiliation, and OR would go to the Fiesta because of proximity. Whew. I have a headache...

ND doesn't have a conference affiliation and can only be seeded no higher than 5th. Only the 4 highest ranked conference champions are seeded 1 thru 4
