BBC News - Syria Qubair: Bloody traces of massacre seen in village

I know this is a few days old but felt it was worth a discussion. The death toll was reported to be at least 78 people (Syrian National Council) or 55 people (Syrian Observatory for Human Rights). This comes after a 108 people were killed in Houla. I wonder how much longer the international community will wait before increasing the intervention rhetoric?

900 thousand were killed in Rwanda and the international community did nothing but look the other way.

It'll get to the point when everybody is screaming that something has to be done, then, when the US stupidly puts boots on the ground, we're going to be accused of imperialism and meddling in the affairs of the Middle East. Again.

The ME needs to start solving it's own problems.

An increase in UN peace keeping troops seems like the only hope for that region. You have to get the votes for that first though (or at least non-veto's).

There won't be a unilateral move by the US or another country to stop the violence.

In short, this will continue unnecessarily for the foreseeable future.

More and more I wonder if the U.S. would be better off entering a phase of isolationism. We're so concerned with solving other people's problems that we're ignoring our own. Don't get me wrong, I believe in a strong military, but do we have to spread it across the world? For once, can't we let the other countries of the world take action without us? I'm growing tired of hearing about atrocities abroad while we have people in our own country suffering as well. Women are beaten and forced to live in shelters to try and escape their tormentors. Children live on the streets and look for food in trash cans. Maybe that's not as bad as what some suffer in this world, but these are our people. Shouldn't we help our own before we presume to help the rest of the world? Maybe the ****storm we currently live in has grinded me down, but at some point we have to put ourselves first because none of the countries we "help" will.

I think more people, or shall I clarify, reasonable people are warming up to the idea of isolationism. The rest are still hypnotized by American exceptionalism and the bogyman perpetuated by the media.

As far as "atrocities abroad", the UN ought to deal with those. That is reason it was founded. Sadly, the UN continues to show no sign of a backbone.

Not oil important to North America or Europe. Nobody will do more than wag a finger.
