I may drive to the game. Would go I 24 and I 40. Does anyone know if the 840 bypass is open all the way between I 24 and I 40? I haven't been out that way in about 6 years. It would apparently be a shortcut.

No it is not open...and won't be for a while. I live in Memphis and my parents live in Murfreesboro, so it definitely would be convenient for me if they would go ahead and finish it.

I think your best bet is still 24 to 440 to 40.

No. Last I was down that way it still only made the connection between 40 down to 65.

So unless a miracle has occured and they finished that stretch between 65 and 40 on the west side in the last 6 months, the answer is no.

Thanks, I guess I will go through Nashville. That is really a dog leg coming from the southern edge of the state at Chattanooga, going almost to the northern edge of the state and then back to the southern boundary at Memphis. 840 will be nice but would have been even better had it been much farther south.

Yeah the drive from RockyTop to The Bluff City is killer !

840 is open from 24 to 40 it just doesn't go around the other side of Nashville yet. I would go around on Hwy 96 if I wanted to avoid Nashville traffic going on the west side of town.

No miracles.I go there quiet often and have come to the conclusion the until 840 is completed ,through Nashville is the quickest way.I have taken 96 but after you get finish going through the town, etc.,it wasn't really worth it to me.

I've gone that way many times. It's really pretty down through there, but it can be a little slow. I go that way only when I'm approaching Nashville at rush hour.

If it has the number 40 in it, it's going to be under construction.

The funny thing is they completed the widening on the east side of Nashville pretty darn quick. I guess it was about 2 years or so. Far better than this 840 crap or Papermill here in Knoxville.

I can understand wanting to take 840 if coming from Chattanooga, but from Knoxville, unless it is rush hour, you're still better off going through town and taking 440. 840 just takes such a wide radius around Nashville, it doesn't make sense.

Finally, last time I was home (over a month ago) they were doing some work around Mt. Juliet now, as well as still working on the west side of town at White Bridge Road. I'll be headed to Nashville this weekend, so I'll see you Vols part of the way... everyone that makes the trip to Memphis, stay safe.

From what I've heard, TDOT has had issues with landowners and that is what has ground 840 to a halt.

Do they have an excuse for Papermill too?

They've done a decent job on Briley Pkwy between Opry Mills and I-40... it shouldn't be too much longer until they have that done as well... which would be nice since driving through there right now is like squeezing an elephant through a pinhole.

You could try taking Hwy. 64 from Chattanooga to Memphis. It takes longer, but at least it's pretty much a straight shot.

it seems like they've been doing work on I40 west of Knoxville forever....when i went to school there in 94, they were working on I40 west of knoxville and they did pretty much my entire tenure there, and when i was there two months ago on business, they are still working on I40 west of Knoxville. will it ever be complete?

====================================

Yes, you can take 840 from 24 to 40. It is open.

840 runs from I-65 across I-24 to I-40. Like this: I-65 +-----+------+ I-40

840 does not go west from I-65 -- well not very far.

The 840-24 interchange map

What ever is best for ya. Try to avoid Nashville during rush hours.
