If an athlete gets a football scholarship and plays a second sport does that go against the second teams scholarship limit? I have been hearing alot of kids saying they want to play basketball or baseball also at the college level and I didnt know how that would work. Any info would be great.

If a baseball player wants to play football, then he will have to use a football scholarship.

I dont know why he wouldnt. Baseball can break up schollys into fractions so he could either take a full scholly for football or a fraction of one for baseball.

pretty sure you have to take the scholarship for the largest sport. It's why Helton was called the best baseball walk-on in the country :p

Your either one or the other, and the one that has the better financial situation is usually the one you take.

It really doesn't matter because which ever gives you money the NCAA will still count you against the max number for football. If baseball gives you a full ride it will still count against the football team in the 85 max.

We just had this discussion on our boards because we have a recruit that wants to play another sport and was asking if that player could take a schooly with the other sport to open another football scholly. The NCAA will make it count on the football team even if the money comes from another sport. Apparantly coaches used to do this to circumvent the 85 rule so the NCAA so no and football would take the hit.
