Maybe I don't look hard enough, but I never see anyone talk about balance in a running back. I don't mean ability to run and catch. I mean just balance, keeping a good center of gravity.

I know speed kills and I am the biggest proponent of that, but I would rather have a back that is slightly slower and have good balance than one that is just flat out fast but can be knocked down easier.

With that said, who are the backs that we are "in" on that have good balance? Also, I would like to hear some your thoughts about balance vs. speed in RB's.

Good point. Obviously, if ur good balance and slow, the defense can swarm to you. But with speed you can get to the outside. I think speed it better, but you need balance in order to break tackles

I always thought balance meant power vs. speed. Being equally balanced between the two.

6 yards every carry is better than 20 yards once every 10 or 15 carries

I always think of power in terms of running through a defender. I think of balance more of making cuts full stride and when hit bouncing off. Hardesty had really good balance IMO.

I see what your saying, but agility goes into it as well.

speaking of RB's seems to me that CDD may not be in favor of any the one's we have. He is looking at few RB's in this recruiting class.

I think of balance in combination with agility. Can't make quick cuts without great balance.

Vision>Balance, imo. I hate watching guys run to a blocker when they have wide open holes to burst through, usually because they can't see the hole or they're not fast enough to get through the hole before it closes - both of which hurt T. Poole this year, imo.

I think balance is good in all areas not great in one or two,but good in all areas.

I find it funny when I read about prospective RB's here in the recruiting forum, speed is always the bottom line. It seems to some, not all posters, that if the guy doesn't have a certain 40 speed, they don't want him. Good backs are more than just speed.

Did anyone notice the Arkansas rb in the Ohio State game? He was good, but he seemed to trip and fall easily and often...

As much as I like Tauren Poole as a competitor and a person, he just was not getting it done the last 3 or four games. Yes, he rushed for 99 yds against Vandy, but should've had 199...

You can bash me and say 'It's because of our young O-line' but hell, he had over 200 yards against Oregon and had six games for 100+. So why did the fire burn out at the end of the season?

You must be able to establish the run, and TN couldn't in the Vandy, UK or UNC games IMHO...

This thread is not for commentary on the running situation at Tennessee or whether or not Tauren is a good back.

I remember everyone talking about Eddie George's balance a lot. I know he worked hard on it. Barry Sanders had ridiculously good balance.

Definitely.

Eddie George- Balance and Power
Barry Sanders- Balance and Agility

Agree?

Yep. I think Arian Foster has good balance too. It might be his best trait, unless you're a pterodactyl looking for a translator. :)
