Are we making a mistake with some of these position players like we did with the quarterbacks?

I felt that our QB recruiting was way too public and it was evident that we were concentrating on one player at a time and going down the board. An example was the Rettig kid that we could have taken but at the time we were putting all of our eggs in the Scroggins basket. Everyone in the country knew it. After Scroggins dissed us Rettig did not want to give us the time of day.

I think that the same thing is happening at other positions. We are pushing Luc and Christian Green. Do we have a backup if we do not get them or are we going to try to get in on some new players in the last minute. These two players still have a lot of options and just because are we high on them they could still end up at other programs.

I think that if we loose out on those players and I was another LB, I would have to question CLK's heart when he shows up on my doorstep. A la Rettig.

I am not saying that this is a new strategy for coaches, but the fact that it is so public really hurts other kid's egos and ultimately their perception of the staff.

These coaches are top notch and proven where ever they have coached. They know the recruiting game and probably have innovated some of it. They don't enter a room without an exit strategy. I think as recruiting has become more visible (internet and reporting) and more information has come into it, then the recruits need more ego stroking and the feeling of being focused on. How many reports on recruiting seem like "who is calling me the most" reports. You are either in business or you are out of business. Look at me (Captain Cliche).

Although a prospect at one position may be at the top of our boards and we go hard after him, I don't think we ignore the others who are down the line..... It seems these coaches of ours are everywhere

Interesting question. I don't know enough about recruiting to question what Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, Lance Thomson, and Eddie Gran think should be our strategy.

God bless!! This is quite possibly the most intelligent answer I've ever read on this board!!

Dude, you need to remember that what we see is like a 10th of what is really going on. And aren't you confusing Rees with Rhetting? Rees is coming to TN, according to my sources (nobody). At the end of the day, we'll be in great shape. Like the other dude says, i think the coaches we've hired can do their job.
Man, i've heard of monday morning quarterbacks, but monday morning ex-facto recruiting hindsite moderator? Dude.

Nope, he wasn't confusing Rees with Rhetting (which is spelled Rettig). Rettig was the number 2 in most's eyes, behind Scroggins, right up until he committed to BC. Your last statement seems a little ironic at this point...

Too many "dudes". But good point, who on this forum has actually recruited for a Div.1 football program? I'm pretty sure nobody, because if they were any good at it, they wouldn't have time to come on here and question strategy.

I really don't know how it works, but I would think that you could only have so many real offers out there. You have to protect for the guys that are on the top of your list. And that is what these kids are waiting on... a real offer. Most of these kids that are any good have gotten love notes from recruiters since they were freshman from all over the country. But if there is no real offer there, they have to assume it is time to move on. I think that is why it is important to get the committments from the kids as soon as possible to know what other needs they really need to be working on. I would say the best recruiters know which kids are playing games by keeping them around just to be their number 3 or 4 school.

Does calling Morley, N Richardson and Mike Edwards for Ken Sparks count?

Just kidding...
