Question about the GA's

Pulled this from the Cliffs Notes thread. I was going to ask this the other day but didn't have time. I'd heard that Staley was wearing it out in recruiting, so it's a shame if he'll be leaving... which brings me to the question. Are GA's simply paid staff? I was thinking it had something to do with the university side or AD and was not specifically related to a coaching staff.

I think they are paid a little, but given free tuition for graduate classes.
I was friends with Cooter and Woods when they were GAs. Their fury was epic when Kiffin fired them.

Been busy and hadn't jumped back in here. It's interesting that they can get fired if they're grad students. Also interesting about Cooter and Woods. Did they burn a mattress?

Funny you should ask that.
They didn't burn a mattress, but they did burn their entire offensive playbooks. It was at a bonfire we had at a mutual friend's house...another former player who lives in Rockford. Me and a buddy were hoping they'd turn away so we could jump in the fire to pull them out, but I chickened out.
I shared the story on here immediately after it happened, and everyone just said I was making it up. I think it was because I added that Cooter went on a 20 minute tirade about how he was already seeing illegal stuff being done by Kiffin. He said at the time that Kiffin was going to ruin the program. Everyone just called it sour grapes.
