I'm not a recruiting guru like some of you but I've noticed a lot of offers from the coaches to athletes that are not as highly rated as some of you would like. Do you believe the coaches are offering based on their evaluations and are they offering because they believe we are going to miss out on most of the higher rated recruits? It just seems strange to me all these offers so late in the cycle to recruits that are lower rated. I don't think evaluations by recruiting services are always right but I don't think they are always wrong either. So what's your opinion on the late offers?

Update! Rumor on the street is, despite the Memphis 3s best efforts, literally all of our current commits are actually silent decommits (even the Memphis 3, believe it or not!!). Staff is in scramble mode trying to fill up the class. I'll report more as I hear it.

Some of these offers take me back to the WR kid from Florida we offered in Pruitt's 1st year that was not ranked with no stars and after our offer he kinda blew up and ended up signing with FSU and a 4 star at that. I know all these aren't the same scenario but if the coaches evaluations warrant a offer then I'm good with it. Just my 2 cent's

Most of them are not committable. they are just setting up a fallback plan on top of another fallback plan, on top of another, Which they probably won’t need to go to. The long list of JUCO offers is what seems weird to me

Jordan Young was his name. Same HS in Georgia as Kurrott Garland. Neither even had a profile on 247 or rivals when we offered in mid Jan a few weeks before signing day. Young blew up into a 4 star and flipped to FSU. He has 3 receptions for 52 yards in his career but who knows if that could have been better in a better situation. Garland was given a 3 star despite his absurd HS production and signed with us and had a very good year this year.

While some may be back up plans it doesn't necessarily mean they believe we're going to miss out on anyone. Due diligence. This happens every year and every year people assume offers at this time are because we're missing someone. It seems more likely that this is the time of year when senior film starts coming out so the coaches are able to evaluate/re-evaluate possibly under the radar kids who finished HS strong and earn offers. Some of these kids could be late developers who were never evaluated by 247/rivals because they hadn't done much yet. Some of the higher ranked kids maybe plateau after dominating as sophomores and juniors and these lower ranked guys out played them as seniors. But I would say that the coaches wouldn't offer them if they didn't evaluate them personally and feel comfortable with offering. They don't care what 247 or rivals thinks.

the start of the season didn't help us at all....other coaching staffs jumped all over that...we've already had decommits but that doesn't mean the staff has given up on them though...I'm sure we'll see some surprises this month and in Feb too...box of chocolates...:D

I think the coaches prioritizing winning games, as they should, then refocused on recruiting after righting the ship. I'm sure it's always a balance through the season but I think this approach allowed them to get back in the door with bigger name recruits. The lower rates recruit offers are both evaluation (Pruitt said the watch film on kids most every day in an article I believe) and some are security plans but are not in vane. They see something in these kids.

Could it also be that’s this staff hadn’t done enough evaluations and film watching and discovered some of these kids. Ultimately they know we won’t have room for the morning but they’re give them an uncommitable offer just to get the kids name out there’s so they can get better offers? I know Pruitt loves working with kids perhaps he just wants the best for them and by offering he know other offers will follow? I know probably a stupid take but something I thought of.

Some have just recently been evaluated. Sure there’s been some misses as well but you’ll see several good schools suddenly become interested in obscure names. We’ll have most of our core needs addressed after ESD and have a few spots to swing for the fences.

What if... Pruitt is building a rapport with some really good high school coaches/programs, and dishing out offers to get some kids on the recruiting radar. Pruitt isn't stupid, knows recruiting is about relationships, and is sowing seeds to harvest 5stars down the road by being the kind of college coach that does high school coaches a solid. It's the logic of a former high school ball coach who hasn't forgotten where he came from.

Along the same lines as I was thinking.

Oh crap, missed where you basically said the same thing.
Nah I think you worded yours better. You included the relationship with the high schools/coaches. I was thinking that just didn’t include it in my post for some reason. At any rate our posts combined make for one good theory I think. 👍

He need to have an assistant living in a tent at the Concord Rd. exit on I65, splitting time between Ravenwood and BA. How we do with those two schools alone will have a major impact on whether or not the 2021 class is viewed as a success. Cannot afford to ole' on middle TN again.

Losing the first two games forced the coaches to definitely prioritize the rest of the games over recruiting as has been rumored. Losing those two made some elite recruits move on so we’re now scrambling for the 2nd and 3rd choices at many positions. I’m sure some of the recent offers are from evaluations as well.

It’s not all bad though. We do have a positive momentum message to sell. Now we hope it’s enough to sign some last minute difference makers.

Most high school seasons are just finishing, which means there is a re-evaluation period coming up. You had guys that didn’t perform and some kids that just blossomed their senior years who weren’t on the radar.
I’d look at someone like Tee Hodges. Pretty disappointing season and fought injury. Pruitt seems to find guys like a Roman Harrison.
of course I was hoping Means was also that kind of player. I think he’s the first true Pruitt signee to not pan out.
