Is it true that there is a law now in Tennessee requiring license plates to be illuminated at night, and if so when did it go in to effect? I looked onlne and can't find anything about it.

Noticed the lights on mine aren't working tonight. Guess I'll add it to the list for the weekend.

I'd argue that from an LEO's perspective when pulling someone over their headlights would illuminate the license plate anyway.

I think its an easy excuse to pull someone over, but also, might as well spend $1.25 on a bulb to avoid the hassle.

Murfreesboro cops are notorious for pulling people for this reason. I was pulled over once for it and have heard of many others getting pulled over for it as well.

I've seen a lot of these turn into DUI charges.

Yep.

Also beware of any license plate covers. Those are illegal in TN, EVEN the clear ones.

Yep. I've been interning for a local LEO for the past couple of months and they've been stopping people for the tinted covers. Just courtesy warnings, but still.

Any laws on the third break light? I've been driving my Accord around with the rear window break light out for a few weeks now. I honestly keep forgetting to pick up the bulb but I still have the two regular break lights.

I know that up here, if there's a light on the vehicle it has to work as intended. I doubt you'd get harassed over it, but its akso a cheap fix
