I may be in the minority, but I've thought since around the time of his injury there was more to it than a "minor setback". I said at that time I could see it being January while most everyone else thought a few weeks, now it looks like he wont return this season IMO. He still has a very noticeable limp and hasn't participated in practice in almost 4 months now. His conditioning has to be bad, and I'm sure he's pretty rusty. He just now is able to walk on a treadmill, still too much pain for him to start running yet. So given that, it looks like he's atleast a month away from hitting the practice floor IMO. Then, once he starts practicing you have to figure he will need atleast a month to get into playing shape. So, IMO best case scenario he is still about 2 months out from a possible return, and that would put us in mid February. I see no reason to bring him back for a month, so yes I'm thinking it's very likely he will be redshirting this year.

As far as stokes, I was one of few who thought it was much more likely he'd return than go pro, and it's looking like that's definitely the case. He has been very disappointing to start this season, and while some of that can be attributed to Maymon being out a lot of it is just on him and his lack of effort. Most drafts had him in the mid to late second round pre season, he has only hurt his stock so I see it very unlikely he goes with that kind of a grade. It actually is starting to really look like he may possibly stay 2 more years and graduate.

Both of those scenerios are really, really good. Maymon's knee has an infection in it and it will be a couple of weeks before he can even walk on the court to even practice. Then he needs to slowly get in the rotation, as each game goes by.

If we have a losing record, then there is no need to rush him. However; if we are on the bubble of making the NCAA, then you play him and hope we get in.

If he plays late in the season and is out of shape then it will not help his NBA draft status.

Part #2 of your question: Stokes is not having a good season from a stats point of view. He is double teamed due to Maymon being out.

If Stokes stays for his junior season and if Maymon red shirts and uses the summer to get in shape, then next season will be really good for us. We may even make the NCAA next season.....

For either of them to go to the NBA after this season would be a big mistake.....

^ why would you bring Maymon back in February with a month left to the season if we are a bubble team? I strongly disagree with that, Maymon playing one month of ball isn't good for either party.

We may make it next year? You sir are the worst Debbie downer on here. You are always negative towards the team. With a SR Golden, McRae, and Maymon...a junior Stokes and Richardson, and a freshman 5 star Hubbs...you think "we may make it". We still have a chance at making the dance this year!

Maymon coming back this season is a pipe dream. I don't see it happening at all. He's a senior and wants to be in the NBA. One of the main reasons he left Buzz and the Marquette team is because him and his dad both felt like playing for Bruce would be a better opportunity for him to get into the league. Marquette had some issues in the post and Maymon was forced to play different roles, which neither liked. Since he's been at Tennessee, he started slow but exploded on the scene last year. If you have dreams of going to the NBA and have a lot to prove, your not coming back in the middle of Feb. with a lack of conditioning and only 2 or 3 weeks left in the season to impress scouts. People should really forget about Maymon this season. Even if he did make a mistake and came back that late in the year, I don't see him contributing like fans would want because that's a lot of basketball he's missed.

Best case for Maymon is to continue to get better, finish his classwork and work hard in the Spring and Summer so he's ready to go full speed when next season starts.

According to his father Maymons knee is fine. It is just a conditioning aspect now due to he is not in gametime condition. Of course that is Maymons dad talking

If we were on the bubble and Maymon came back for the last few games of the season, I'd lose a ton of respect for Martin for being selfish. I doubt he's that kind of guy and I see no scenario that would put Maymon on the court this season.

Then Maymon's dad is crazy. You don't limp unless there is a problem and anytime I've seen Maymon lately, he's limping. Of course his dad probably knows more about his health condition than we do but there's no way he's being honest unless Maymon is acting, which makes no sense.

I just want to throw this out there about Stokes....Thomas Robinson was a lottery pick last year. His freshman year he sat behind the Morris twins I believe, averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, but only played 7 mpg. Stokes came in for half of his freshman year (technically as a HS senior) and averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds but played 25 mpg. T-Rob's minutes went up to 15 mpg his sophomore year, where as stokes is averaging 27 mpg. T-Rob averaged 7.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and Stokes is averaging 11 points 8 rebounds this year even while he is struggling.

What I'm getting at is T-Rob really didn't break out until his junior year when he averaged 18 points 12 rebounds playing 31 mpg. I see the same thing happening with Stokes, with the presence of Hubbs spreading the floor opening the lane and with Maymon (if he RS) down low helping with the double teams.

If you read the whole article that's not even close to what he's saying. The knee is fine structurally, meaning the surgery did its job, but there is now an infection in the knee.

The guy can't even run on a treadmill, he can only walk, doesn't that tell you something?

I think Stokes is way overrated. If you are a potential Pro especially a first round pick your play has to stand out night in and night out. And at 6'8 270 lbs he is soft, Hall from Wichita St. abused him last night. Also he has no outside shot in the post pros will eat him up

Well he is still 18 years old and would technically be a freshman this year...

Stoke is a lot of things. Soft isn't one of them. Mild-mannered may be a better description. He needs to develop a consistent mean streak. He needs to expand his offensive repertoire, learn to quit putting the ball on the floor, and to quickly recognize and pass out of double-teams. He had these problems last year too, but he at least gave 100% effort. That seems to be lacking at times this year. He seems disinterested.

Wow thats really interesting, i think we can be VERY good next year... Also one more quick question... Ever since Austin Nicols commited to Memphis, his thread has become a pissing contest between UT fans and Memphis fans on this board... Are we still contacting him? And do we have a shot at swaying him? And if not who are some other big time guys (stokes, hubbs) that we are going after hard and have a shot at?

Probably about zero percent chance at swaying him. He's signed his LOI. Would have loved to have had him though.

It would be nice to have Maymon, Stokes, and Hubbs next season, if that's how it works out.

What would suck is if Maymon doesn't make it back and still decides to put his name in the draft. There's that possibility too.

Nichols has signed his letter of intent so we have no chance of swaying him, unless Pastner was to get fired, then the chances would be decent.

As far as other guys, no big names for 2013 really. We only have 3 available scholarships if Maymon redshirts and we already have 3 signed for next year.

No there's not that possibility. Maymon isn't gonna be on any draft board if he doesn't play this year, that's a promise. As is he was late 2nd round to undrafted preseason, a season long injury don't raise that stock. If he wants to be drafted he will return next year to Tennessee.
