I was watching the news and they were talking about what president Obama said to the Black Caucus to basically shut the F' up pull up your boot straps and move forward. Just sitting back and female doggin' about how hard AA's have it etc. Did he ruin his chances for the black vote?

No they will still vote for the guy, no matter what Obama does or doesn't do I shall say.

One of the NAACP leaders came out recently and stated that they would be "storming the White House" if there were not a black man as our POTUS.
So, no, he will never lose their vote.

a lot of blacks voted for him last time, solely because he is black, so no

Isn't Colored People a politically incorrect term? Shouldn't they change their name to NAAAA?

I haven't read the article but I do remember Bill Cosby making a statement kinda like this one and he was ripped apart.

He could do a line of coke in the middle of Times Square and he wouldn't lose their vote.

Might as well be honest, the black vote will always be whored by the democratic party till they are replaced by the latino vote.

Also, obama wont get the white guilt vote next time round....

Ah, another thread questioning Obama's legitimacy. Good, I was starting to think you folks had gone all soft.

Who's questioning his legitimacy? All I see is a thread about what has been a homogenous voting block.

And I see a thread with numerous commentts that blacks voted for him just because he's black, implying that he is not legitimately deserving of the office.

I'd be disappointed if you reached any less.

I remember that. People get mad when the truth is spoken. And yes LG, black people voted for Obama just because he's black.

is voting against someone because of race more/less racist than voting for someone only based on race?

Valid question.

The difference is that blacks are an historically disadvantaged and for a long period out right oppressed minority.

That they vote for Obama because he's black is not ideal, but its far more morally justifiable than whites voting against him because he's black.

so you are ok with racism as long as it's black racists and not white ones? Stupid me for thinking it was all bad

Personally, I can't hold it against anyone for voting for someone that they identify with for whatever reason . . . whether I think it's smart or not.

Racism is wrong period. People who apologize for it now are no different from those who apologized for it yesteryear.

Personally, I can't hold it against anyone for voting for someone that they identify with for whatever reason . . . whether I think it's smart or not.

If you vote 'for' someone because of his race and his opponent was the other race, then you voted 'against' the opponent because of his race. Either way, I can and will hold it against the people who do it. People who make important decisions that impact me, my family, my friends, etc on the basis of emotion rather than reason make me mad. If that emotion is racism, then it is much worse than just being stupid and voting for the wrong guy.

I can respect anyone who researched, learned about Obama, thought through his ideas and then, on the basis of information and logic, decided to vote for him. I will disagree with that person, but I can respect him. I have no respect for anyone who votes because of what group someone belongs to. Anyone who voted for McCain because he was a Rep is deserving contempt. Anyone who voted for him because he was white, is disgusting. The same thing holds true the other way. If you voted for Obama because he was a Dem, then shame on you. If you voted for him because he was black, then you are scum.

People who have been victims of racism should be aware of the harms it causes and one would think they would try to not treat others the same way. Too bad most people, of all stripes, suck.

IIRC Obama received a higher percentage of the black vote but it was less than 10 percentage points more than what a typical Dem gets. This time around I bet he loses half that premium but will still get the vast majority based on historic voting patterns.

The other difference was turn out. I bet it's down this time around for him.
