I know that in basketball, home court advantage counts a lot, so assuming that LSU has a six point advantage by virtue of this game being played in Baton Rouge; how do we match up against them otherwise?

The Pete Maravich Assembly Center is definitely not worth 6 points. Hell, 6 points anywhere is humongous in college hoops.

Having said that, LSU has played well at home and we are not a great road team.

Homecourt is generally something like +/- 3 points. LSU and UT are comparable, UT would definitely be favored if playing at TBA.

LSU has actually been pretty tough at home this season, aside from a November lose to South Alabama, the only team to beat them at home is Kentucky.

EDIT: Also lost to UVA at home in OOC play as well.

Either way, all I know is we don't play great on the road. LSU is decent overall a pretty good home team. Hopefully we go down there with the right attitude and don't play like we did at Bama. GBO

Vegas has LSU -1 right now. If I bet college basketball games, I'd take that line. Regardless, even with home court, Vegas essentially sees a wash. UT would be favored by 5-6 at home probably. We play poorly on the road. I'm guessing that factors in just as much or more than LSU playing well at home.

I understand that home court advantage is usually worth 3 points, but I was also trying to factor in the fact that we are not a good road team. That being said, basketball is really a game of matchups and I was wondering how we matched up against the Tigers.

Things to note:

It's LSU's Senior Night.
They don't shoot the three really well.
Can LSU shake off their beatdown by Ole Miss?
Can Jeronne Maymon et al handle Hamilton down under the basket?
Will Pornstache find his shot again?
Can we outrebound Hamilton and O'Bryant?
Can LSU cause enough turnovers to make up for our defense?

I said it in another thread: I wouldn't touch this line. It's going to be a toss up. That said, I think LSU wins.

Hard to pick against a team on it's senior night. Also, the LSU students should be snapping out of their weeklong, post-Mardi Gras hangovers around this time, so I bet the Pistol will be rocking.

All I know is, we have HORRIBLE luck against LSU late in the season. I think we match up well with them though.

The line for a game is not the oddsmakers' assessment of what the difference in final score will be. It is an assessment of what particular basketball point spread number will draw even action from the combination
of sports bettors. Vegas' oddsmakers are only concerned of trying keep the sports betting action split between each side. Doing so allows Vegas or the sportsbook to make their money off the juice.

Yes...that's WHY they do it, but the result is that on average the spread is fairly accurate and that's why the betting action gets split down the middle. If they weren't good at picking the spread then they wouldn't get the money to split.
