Can you recall a player that came in and changed a season the way Stokes has? I haven't followed basketball long enough to really gauge how rare this really is. Thanks. :hi:

Stokes is just a piece of the puzzle why this season turned around. The team started to get what Coach Martin was teaching them before Stokes arrived but midterm enrollees Stokes caliper don't happen that I am aware of.

If you're referring to a high school senior coming in mid year it has happened one other time....

Bill walker for Kansas state. He got hurt shortly after joining the team, I believe acl iirc.

Didn't change a season halfway in, but Mashburn turned the UK program back around for Pitino, coming out of the gloomy Sutton era.

Stokes was definitely just a piece of the puzzle, he gave the program a shot in the arm however. I'm excited for the team's future.

Seriously?

I don't know..Hopson was the first highly acclaimed guy I can remember.. I feel as though he didn't live up to his full potential.. I've only been following UT basketball for about 4 years now.

Obviously there were some great players in the past, I'm looking for more recent, immediate impact players that's all.

Mark Griffin, Charles Hathaway, Lang wiseman, etc.
There have been plenty

Beal has been a force for FL. Our defense smothered him, but in almost all other games he's been a stud.

As for midterm freshmen enrollees... Aside from the aforementioned Bill Walker, the kid from Duke its the only other player I can think of and his name has escaped me at this early hour... Dude looks like Carlton from the fresh prince

For UT going back a few years, both Ernie Grunfeld and Bernard King made huge impacts as true freshmen.

I thought King didn't start playing until his Soph year in '75. I could be wrong. That was a long time ago.

Stokes is great but he's not even the best player on our team IMO. He's for sure not the guy you want the ball with at the end of the game either. He'll be a fantastic player and I'm excited about the kids future. Martin gets credit for the turn around though, not Stokes.
