Ok,

I have only been following recruiting for the last year or so. I need a better perspective on what the effects of a loss like the one we suffered yesterday are on recruiting?

Are recruits more willing to commit because they see the apparent need for help and the immediate opportunity for playing time? Or do they mark UT out of their top schools due to the loss, the home crowd booing its own players, or some other reason?

Thanks for all opinions.

I think its different for different type of losses. Losses like yesterday are much different than blowout losses and the fans leave early and theres no atmosphere. But yesterday's game had a great atmosphere and the stadium was very loud. I think even though we lost the recruits see that that is how much they're needed and could play early.

Depends on the recruit honestly. Some are pretty level headed and understand that losses happen. Some think that everyone has to win to be considered by them. It's really all in how the coaches treat them as well after the game. Trust me, if a coach can treat a recruit well after the game, then that goes a long way in the recruit looking over a loss or tough game.

Kiffin just said that some recruits after the ame were raiving about the atmosphere and energy during the game.

The great thing for UT is it happened now in the season. I don't think recruits are expecting a win at UF but if UT can win 7 to 9 and go to a bowl game the game doesn't hurt them at all. Most understand and have been told by the staff the new system in place will take some time. The real test is where the team is at in the end and have they improved. It would actually hurt more if you win your first 7 games and drop 4 of the last 5, because than the system failed. Along as UT keeps getting better it will be alright. Most of the recruits UT is waiting on are not commiting until after the season so no issues.

Plus the defense looked really good in the game. The offense didn't play well, but I honestly believe most recruits aren't expecting them to with what they have talent wise overall. Which is actually good for UT, because the big recruits you guys are after are on that side of the ball. They get to see that the coaches are telling them the truth when they say they have a chance playing early and make a difference. Every recruit believes UT will be back in the elite, so recruits see a bright future.

imo next week will be more important. These players will want to see if the Vols will stand up to the #1 team in the country after a loss or will UT lay down and proceed to get their teeth kicked in...

I agree. Do you practice like it's a must win game and come out and compete or was it over before it began!

Next week says a lot about this team and season!

I agree.Unlike the last couple of years after next weeks game, even if it's a win or a loss for the Vols, I want to hear Tebow, Rainey, Spikes and company say "That's the toughest game I've ever been in, they never let up, they fought until the end."
