Question for those who have had hernia surgery.

I had umbilical hernia surgery around 6 years ago.

Noticed the last couple of days it maybe coming back.

is it common for the mesh they use in that surgery to fail?

Thanks for any info.

I hope not, I had the same surgery 4-5 years ago.

I had a ventral hernia repair with mesh Jan 2015 and it was back by June of 2015. Followed all post op protocols. After much prodding, I had it repaired 30th of September. Hope this one sticks. This one was done laparoscopically whereas the first was open. Think there is around 15-20% chance of failure but don’t quote me on that.

Ugh, hate to hear that.

Mine was done laproscopically as well.

Jeez I hate the thought of doing it again.

I actually had a tummy tuck two years ago and they found six hernias 😂 largest being umbilical.. I know, weird, right.. the best they could figure it was from lifting up heavy patients who outweighed me by triple all of those years or having twins.. they told me if there was visible bruising or abdominal protrusion to make appointment with MD who had performed surgery(my hernia repair took longer than the actual tummy tuck and made for a painful recovery

I had double inguinal hernia surgery about 4 yrs ago. DR assured me the mesh they used is not the mesh you see on the lawsuit commercials. He told me never say never, but the chances of them coming back are slim. Every once in a while I feel like they may be back, but it only feels like it for just a tiny little bit, then back to normal
