Can someone give me a quick version of what it takes to use a year of your eligibility.

I mean when I see people like Chase Nelson and Dan Williams getting mop up duty against Vandy, is that costing them one of their years? Or do you have to play a certain numbers of plays in a year? Thin as we are at DL I would hate to think we are using a year up on these guys for situtions like this?

I don't know the eact number, but it has to do with the number of quarters they play.

Unless you suffer an injury, once you play a single snap, you've burned a year's eligibility.

Wow. So what is the point of getting these players into a game like they did today? The game was over, we were not playing for any kind of championship. Would it not be better to hold of on them, let them get an offseason of weight training under them and have them be redshirt freshmen next year?

I don't know about Nelson, but I know Williams has already played this year. Didn't he already redshirt last year?

Had neither of them played at all this year?

fwiw, Medical redshirts can be applied to anyone injured that has not played in 25% of the games... basically 3 games

If they had I had not noticed. But if they have, I don't think it was anything meaningful. With the DL in such bad shape, would it not be better to build some depth by redshirting these guys?

Nelson played against Memphis. I think Dan Williams did, as well.

you are correct sir. thus ruining their red shirt availability... red shirting is still widely used, but w/ our lack of depth, we had to keep them on the team and let them get in early just to gain the "experience". turns out we didn't really need them, but that's just how the cookie crumbles

Dan Williams was redshirted last year. Chase Nelson is a true Freshman. I'm not sure why he played.

That is what you see more and more nowadays. Depth is seemingly a lot bigger deal now than it was 10 years ago.

I know Nelson didn't play until about the 4th or 5th game. I specifically remember hvwarrior saying how dumb it was to burn his redshirt by playing him for the first time that far into the season.

I've seen D. Williams on the field late in a few games.

Williams actually played in the Cal game as well. if he was redshirted last year that's it for him. you can only be redshirted once, excluding those once in a blue moon medical redshirt 6th years. protocol is that you must finish your four year career in five years.. if that makes sense

Then there's the Jason White situation. It's almost as though he wanted to be the first man to play along side his son in college football.

These guys may have progressed to the point that they were better than the people ahead of them. Fulmer has been very good in saving the redshirt fo injury years which unfortunately occur often. Example: Austin Rogers.

It has to do with the % of quarters played, so you can play in a few games and still redshirt. For example, I think Hancock will be eligible for a redshirt even though he has played and caught two passes.

No, it doesn't and no, you can't.
