It's been a long time since I left Tennessee. From what I recall, we didn't have spring football practice for high schools. We ran football track, which is much different from what Florida high schools have, which is actual spring football practice.

How is it now in TN? Anyone know about the rival states?

In late 70's early 80's we had spring practice in my high school unless I'm imagining this?

Played HS ball at Copper Basin in late 80's and early 90's. We had spring practice with a scrimmage game against another school at the end of it or we had a "Cougar Bowl" spring game with the SR and FR vs JR and SO.

Yes TSSAA allows actual spring practice. At the local HS it is in late April/early May.

I played HS football in 1993 and 1994 in Tennessee (Hendersonville) and we had spring practice. We would scrimmage against Brentwood and Lebanon. When I moved to Missouri they did not have spring practice for football and still do not. Ten to fifteen years ago, Missouri High School football just introduced the Jamboree that is done before the start of the season.

There's definitely been spring practice for a good while, and most schools have at least one organized scrimmage with another school. Sometimes it's a simulated game. And many programs end the spring with a spring game a la the Orange and White Game.

Obviously those football players that participate in spring sports may miss though.
