We wake up November 3 and find out the GOP controls the House and perhaps the Senate. Obama has already claimed that if this happens the GOP will have to learn to work with him. Obama is already setting the bar at him still being in charge.

BUT...

Should the GOP use the same phrases uttered by the Dems when they won in '06? And when Obama won in '08? And should the GOP say that because of this "mandate" Obama should come to them rather than vice versa?

“They lost we won, but we’re right where the public is. That’s what the elections said, that’s what the polls say now.” --Sherrod Brown (D)

"Get over it Republicans! Al Franken won!"

"Quit with all the whining already! Your guy lost. Get over it!"

President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.

it will be similar to what happened from 2001 through 2007. The democrat minority squealing about the "rights of the minority" to such an extent the GOP majority backs down and we end up with another sub-prime mortgage disaster.

As much as I want the GOP to win majorities, I fear that their leadership cadre are a bunch of limpwristed pansies similar to Bill Frist.

The Tea Party is critical. Since the GOP doesn't have one... the TP will have to serve as their spine.

If TPer's stay involved and hold the GOP accountable as they seem positioned to do then there may be some real action. If the GOP starts listening to the inside the beltway media/pundits/lobbyists again then watch for the TP to split off into a third party before the next election.

I expect we're going to see a brand of conservative hard ball not seen since 1994, if this scenario comes about. Just my sense, from the rhetoric and overall sentiment of the Republican party.

I'd rather there be bipartisanship, but the Republicans have done a lot of damage to Obama by not working with him, why change that now?

bipartisanship is a word that "feels good" to say but has no inherently positive value. I just want good government. I could care less if the two parties sung "Koombaya" as they did it or even were happy in what they were passing to reach that end.

Yeah I'll agree that assuming bipartisanship means good government is a stretch.

And the Democrats did "a lot of damage" to Bush as well. It's a cyclical process. Do you honestly expect anything different? No one side can be blamed for any of this.

Our system is set up to allow for more moderate change compared to other systems. It's a much slower process that in theory should cause more deliberation and intent to soften any radical change. European countries can see radical swings in change. We may think some change is radical but having to appeal to certain majorities depending on who is in power causes a slower process.

regardless of who is in charge of what, two things need to happen and I will be much much much less concerned.

-Gov't to come out and say point blank no bill will pursue or investigate acquisition of 401k or retirement to feed Social Security.
-Take this medical coverage mandate mess behind the shed and put 4 in its head.

If they start talking about impeachment and birth certificates they might as well forfeit running in 2012.
