I read that USF was only in it's 11th season of having a college football program and it was the second quickest team to get ranked after starting up a program Boise St. first).

My question is USF the same school that used to be called the University of Tampa, which had a football team in the early seventies that was disbanned (I believe ex Kentucky coach Fran Cursi may have been a coach there)?

Which brings me to this,if it's call the University of South Florida, then why the hell it located in in Central Florida?
it has always baffled me for years.

USF is in Tampa, which is considered southwest florida. UCF is in orlando.

. . . .and yet they are at almost the same lattitude. It's confusing and a bit of a misnomer, IMO. Jacksonville to Tampa is actually a shorter drive than Tampa to Miami.

For clarification: The University of Tampa is adjacent to the bay, just west of downtown, enrolls around 5,000 students (if I remember correctly), and is quite visibly marked by buildings with striking metallic spires.

USF's main campus is in North Tampa, has an enrollment number in the vicinity of UT, and may be the ugliest I've seen. It does, however, have an excellent Pediatric Residency, which includes training in both Tampa and St. Petersberg. :)

South Florida's total enrollment is almost twice the amount of Tennessee. I also found UTK to be just as unsightly (if not more) than South Florida.
