I never expected this to be a good year with the transition, but I now sense some wavering of some of our commitments due to an incomplete coaching staff. I agree with getting the hires right as the first step and we should not fudge to just get players.

I really expect that we will see the rewards next year as our staff will have a complete year to woo the juniors.

The wavering is not because of the incomplete coaching staff, but bc of the inconsistant play of the team last year, the new coaching staff, and the instabilaty within a program getting going again.

Well no one was wavering during last years struggles and we didnt start losing people until the firing so no, it is based on the incomplete staff. We put together a fine class during our struggles. I love Kiffen and I think its more important to make the good hires but that is the reason.

I had read somewhere that our coaching staff would almost be complete by the end of the dead period. I guess whoever reported that was way off. I think not having a staff complete will hurt us more than we know. Think about it....If you were a kid coming out of HS and planning on playing college ball wouldn't you want to know who you were going to be coached up by?

the calendar is a bigger concern to me. most of our recruits are coming on the weekend of the 30th. each weekend someone takes a visit and decides not to finish their visits. i'd be more worried about guys getting picked off before they even see Knoxville.

the staff is competent and there's a great deal of buzz swirling around. some of these guys have already said they're not that concerned with position coaches because they trust the guys making the decisions.

That's the risk. The reward is if they DO make it, your school is freshest on their mind when they have to make a decision.

We have some scheduled visits over the next 3 wks, we would have never gotten before.
I think we pull a couple surprises this year. Next year they will be visiting to confirm they are coming here.

You have two "Kiffins" in your avatar and you don't even know how to spell their name?!

Didn't I read where Kiffin told the recruits that the staff would be in place by the time of their visit?

To answer the question on the thread title, yes, of course. I just think that is only one con among a whole list of pros.

Yes an incomplete staff may somewhat hinder this recruiting class, but there is a bigger picture.

Look at the people that have been interviewed or hired. They are among the best of the best in terms of recruiting. It is obvious that recruiting is gonna be the corner-stone of the Kiffin era.

To sacrafice a few recruits this year is well worth getting in with recruits in the next several years that would have never considered comming to Knoxville before.

This years class will be fine, not the best, but fine. Look out for years to come though. In a month or two next year's class will begin to form an identity, and I would bet alot of money that everyone is gonna be REALLY excited with what they see. And the year after that..........:pepper:  :dance2:

could hurt...especially if everyone is not in place by the weekend of the 30th...too many VITAL recruits coming that weekend.

Not hurting right now, but like Jack said, if they ALL aren't in place by the 30th (at latest by the 23rd IMO) then recruits may be a little edgy about it.

Memphis, Tennessee wide receiver Marlon Brown is a wanted man and the state's top ranked player is very happy to be wanted, but the four-star standout is glad this coming week is a dead period after a hectic last couple of days. On Friday, Brown saw coaches from Ohio State and Tennessee. On Saturday it was Georgia's turn. And after it all, everyone is even.

Marlon Brown in the under armour game said one of his criteria was a good wr coach, and we dont even have a wr coach. this will definitely affect some of these recruits decisions with the uncertainty of the staff.

Kiffin is going to be GREATLY involved as part of developing the WR's. We don't have a coach with a title yet, but that doesn't mean we don't have a coach.

We have had UT grads in charge of the program for the last 37 years and I can not see where they provide a specific advantage. In fact our program has suffered some of the same problems that was common in the Alabama program, inbreeding.

I do not know who Kiffin has in mind for any of the positions, but I totally trust his judgement and think that he should pick the most qualified coach regardless of where they come from.
