1. Does it seem to be an unusually high number of jobs open at this time of year? I remember three distinct waves, but the post bowl hirings and firings seem to have all happened much earlier than usual.
BCS jobs, Wash St. UCLA, Arizona, Arizona St., Texas A&M, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Illinois, North Carolina, Kansas, Penn State etc...

11 big jobs, seems higher than usual

Akron, Ark State, Hawaii, Colorado State, UAB, FAU, Fresno State, UMass, New Mexico, Memphis, Tulane

11 small jobs.

2. Is this the most off the couch hires that you can remember in football? Bob Davies? Urban Meyer? Mike Leach? Rich Rod? No dominoes falling in terms of their current staff because they had no staff when they left.

My guess for the reason for #1 is that with all the new TV money and the conference realignment, folks did not want to miss out on upgrading their coaches. Most SEC schools feel like they have top level talent, and those who do not feel constrained from making a change.
