I've watched plenty of full games on YouTube of Peyton as a Vol, but I was too young to really remember him playing. I do however have a great recollection and memory of his ongoing pro career.

Now, I fully understand Peyton's neck injuries, and the worries there, and who knows how long he has had nagging injuries with his neck, BUT I also FULLY believe that if Peyton would be more willing to run a simple QB sneak that he would have at least 1 more SB and would've won the game last night as well.

Multiple times, especially against the Patriots, he was on the goal line and got stuffed with no QB sneak attempt. Almost all of those games were big in one way or another. Some decided Playoff home field, some were in the playoffs and kept them out of the SB.

If there is one thing Peyton has proven in his career, its that on 3rd & inches, 4th & inches, it is very hard to convert when an NFL defense KNOWS you want to run it up the middle, and especially when you take the ball backwards after the snap.

So just wondering what everyone else thinks. Did Peyton run many QB sneaks at UT? Do you guys think that Peyton has had enough reason with his neck to not run those QB sneaks? Do you agree that not running those sneaks has cost him in some form or fashion?

Just something I have always debated with my brother and dad. I'd like to hear what others think. :hi:

Peyton didn't run too many quarterback sneaks but he did make a few teams look absolutely silly with naked bootlegs for touchdowns. Check these video clips out:

Manning Bootleg - YouTube

I believe that he ran for a touchdown on a bootleg against Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl but I am having trouble finding a video clip specifically of that play. Here are links, however, to coverage of that game: 1997 Citrus Bowl -Tennessee 48 Northwestern 28 - 1st Half - YouTube and 1997 Citrus Bowl - Tennessee 48 Northwestern 28 - 2nd Half - YouTube.

This one didn't result in a touchdown but might well have been his longest run in the NFL: Peyton Manning Running The Ball - YouTube

Yeah I've seen a few of those. Would've loved to see him pull one against the Patriots or the Ravens last night. Got stuffed on 3rd and 1 more than a few times last night.

Peyton's greatest assets are his mind and arm, my question to you is, had they let him throw for some of those late 3rd and 4s would the results have been different? But hindsight is 20/20.

Peyton won the game in the 4th quarter when he put the Broncs ahead 35-28.

It's too bad their Defense snatched loss from the jaws of victory allowing that inexcusable TD pass with 30 seconds left in the game. They had no freaking timeouts. You tackle the guy and time expires. Unreal.

And Peyton somehow choked?

Peyton's quarterback sneak days are over. All the teams recruiting him last spring knew that. He brings a ton to the table....but not a QB sneak.

You are right. At some point, they may need to do some type of wildcat type package

The Broncos are too predictable when Peyton lines up under center. In this formation they run nearly 100% of the time. This tendency cost them some short yardage pickups yesterday.

Never will forget that wonderful bootleg play against Alabama for a TD. The play called was for him to give the ball to the running back....& at the last possible second he pulled the ball out & went the other way for a TD.....beautiful smarts of a true QB. I hope he want try throwing back against his body next time. But yesterday, the defense messed up big time. That game was not on Peyton losing it.

Original post makes me wonder about Peyton's playcalling. I've always thought he tends to make a conservative play call on 3rd and short situations. Maybe he was influenced by the same tendencies while he was playing at UT? That seemed to be our pattern for years, especially during the Majors/Fulmer era. I'm not criticizing the approach but it's seemed overly conservative and worse, predictable, to me.

Peyton probably has about one more year to make a Super Bowl run. He's getting old and his arm strength has diminished noticeably.

I haven't watched him much this year. But he definitely had less velocity late in that game last night. He was laboring to make the long out throws

The fact that you don't let Peyton get the 1st down is ridiculous. Don't depend on your defense!

You learn in high school not to let a receiver get behind you when time is running out. The Broncos had two guys let that receiver beat them. That's just unacceptable. I kept saying on all those 3rd and one plays, play action! Apparently they couldn't hear me.

There is a big difference between the 1st & 2nd string RB running the ball for it vs. the 3rd, 4th, and 5th going for it.

3rd and 5 with Peyton Manning and you run it to punt it.....you don't even try to pick it up with him...best player on the team and you take the ball out of his hands to seal victory....absolutely inexcusable.

Exactly what I said. I get you're tryin to run the clock but if you let Peyton try to get the 1st down to end it!

What the heck is a "mustang package" on offense?

Torrey Smith made Bailey look old. The defense giving up 3rd and long on Baltimores 5 yard line was big late in the fourth. And running Ronnie Hillman on 3rd and 1 against Baltimore was weak also. Peyton didnt lose this game.

peyton's lost some zip on this throws---it was a matter of time. Luckily, that 95 million deal is guaranteed.

Peyton took the Broncos from pretenders to contenders in his first year with the organization . The Broncos management will work to surround PM with better players in the off season. He did an outstanding job with what he had to work with and made the players around him better.
