Questions From Noobs:Tennessee Baseball Edition

For people who followed the Basevols prior to Vitello coming to Knoxville.
Tell me who would make your Mount Rushmore of Tennessee Baseball?

Only players and coaches that played or managed prior to the 2018 season.

Rod Delmonico took us to 3 CWS. I think he asked for money to be put into the program. At the time, we only cared about football and women’s basketball. Im so glad we have an AD that wants to be an everything school.

Could someone please explain how the summer leagues work?

How many different leagues are there available to college ball players?

On these teams, is it filled only with current active students?

Is it mandatory or suggested that current roster players participate in the summer leagues?

Also is there a list that shows where all our players will be playing this summer?

Are the games televised?

Players get invited to varying leagues. USA Baseball and Cape Cod are the most elite of them.

There's quite a few, but again, cape cod and team USA are the best of them

Yes, no draft guys

Suggested, strongly. But there's no requirement.

No unfortunately

There are lots of them ranging from The Cape Cod League with wooden bats to the Alaska Baseball League, Northwoods League, Cal Summer Ball League, Coastal Plains League, Cal Ripken League, Hamptons Baseball League, leagues in Florida, Texas, Jayhawk League in Kansas. There’s more.

I’m not sure regarding Televised, but most of em stream. I say not sure due to ESPN+, maybe they will.

In some leagues HS players sometimes fill out rosters.

Usually the invites go out in January ish which makes it hard to know who a team will get. We had several guys for the Cape but they probably won’t go because the season was so long.

UT will put out a list, maybe next week.

Mandatory is relative. Usually for the younger guys, maybe less opportunities during the season, those guys can benefit. The Cape is another animal, every MLB team is gonna have a scout there. There’s a few leagues in a category like that.

Hope that helps.

66 with a better, more concise answer than mine. Pretty much why I singled out USA Baseball and Cape Cod though. No one turns those offers down and it's always the best of the best playing there.

I’m hopeful that fall ball will start attracting more attention with how the sport is growing. It will never be the behemoth that is college football or the NFL but they can definitely fill in the weekdays whenever football is not being played.
