Questions From Noobs:Tennessee Baseball Edition

So who would be the closest thing to Duke/Carolina in baseball?
Not sure I care about Duke or UNC. 😂 Nothing comes to mind. Everybody is gunning for us in baseball. I know that. I think it's too early to tell who our biggest rivals will be in the long run, but it won't be in-state. Who do you think? I think Duke and UNC being in the same state is mostly accidental to why their rivalry is so big.

1)
I’m curious who was the coach when you got into Vols baseball.

2)
At the time of each coaches dismissal, did you think they should have been given more time? Or was it the right time or did they over extend their stay?

3)
What would you say was the high point and low point of each of Tennessee’s coaches?

1) I was kinda young for the Delmoinco years but Helton and the rest got me over there. Serrano years got me in for real so to speak and that has a direct correlation to VN for me.

2) I’m not as familiar with Delmonico’s ending but I know it was contentious based on his accomplishments. Raleigh, I think most were glad to see him go and he didn’t endear himself on the way out the door. Serrano years, I flew the flag. By all accounts, he was a nice guy and he did a lot of good in the community. That goodwill probably gave him a year more than the results deserved. The Serrano years were really for me, the introduction to following summer ball and ya have to remember…college baseball, in general, got a lot less coverage and ya had to really try. It was the perfect storm for me. I was a stay at home dad. I was a noob on here. There were not many folks into college baseball and the Vols weren’t all that good.

3) I can’t give ya high and low points, like a specific win or series of losses, it’s baseball. Vitello and his crew are a completely different animal. It’s one thing to come here and say we should invest in baseball, that’s easy. It’s something else on the field, he’s done that fantastically.

Hope that’s in the ballpark of what yer seeking.

GBO!!!

Cafego.

Though I wasn’t yet born when he coached the BaseVols, I’m afraid if I answer differently he will come down here and kick my ass.

My Dad took me to my first BaseVols games in the late 70s, so Bill Wright, but I don’t remember anything about him. I watched games when I was in college, but they were pretty terrible then.

Delmonico is when I really started paying attention.
