I am aware there is a thread in the Pub forum, but I felt the need to post one here in the forum that he would most want to be remembered. I had the pleasure of talking to Mr. Newman a few times at Mid-Ohio and particularly at Nelson Ledges where the participants outnumbered the fans.

I know that he was more proud of his accomplishments on the race track than on the screen. He said driving a racing car was much more challenging to him. He didn't start until he was 47 years old after the movie "Winning". He won several SCCA National events and the National Championship in C Sports. He was competitive in professional events at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and co-drove the second place finishing car at LeMans.

My memory will always be when he came over to our campfire one Saturday night and drank a couple of Buds with us, leaving us a case. He was a wonderful actor, a great philanthropist, and a pretty damn good driver.
