Jihad Watch: Imam prays to stop ‘oppression and occupation’ at Democratic National Committee meeting

this would be along the lines of having Fred Phelps give the invocation at an RNC meeting. However, because this is the DNC, the national media (other than c-span) isn't going to cover this without glossing over this imam's close ties to the theocracy in Iran.

this is the same guy that staged pro-war demonstrations in dearborn, michigan. while his group was backed by iran, "close ties to the theocracy" is not exactly how i would describe it.

i have to also disagree with your comment that "this would be along the lines of having Fred Phelps give the invocation at an RNC meeting." This guy is in no way the radical that Fred Phelps is.

Debbie Schlussel

he cheered after Saddam's execution, but to delve further...

This past summer, Al-Husainy seemed very happy leading almost-daily protests of thousands of Hezbollah supporters on the streets of Dearborn and Detroit, swarming with swastikas and anti-Semitic, anti-American signs.

Imam Husainy was also in great spirits when he led a number of pro-HAMAS and pro-Arafat rallies in the area. Yes, Shi'ites who hate Sunnis to death in Iraq, love Sunnis in Israel when they're killing the Jews. In late 2004, he seemed thrilled to lead a rally on the streets of Dearborn, commemorating Arafat's death. He and his followers held signs featuring enlarged photos of Khomeini at the rally.

Imam Al-Husainy and other Shi'ite leaders in Dearborn are not just followers of Khomeini, they are supporters of Moqtada Al-Sadr and proteges of his late uncle, Imam Mohammed Bakr Al-Sadr--who was murdered by Saddam Hussein. Every year, the Al-Sadr Foundation holds a fundraising banquet in Dearborn.

so, I disagree, this guy is just as bad as Fred Phelps.

you will have to forgive me if i don't put too much stock into debbie schlussel, who is more or less just ann coulter lite. unfortunately i can't find much more on this guy other than his support of the war in iraq and support of president bush at the time which is old news. i will respectfully decline to comment further until i can find out more about him. however, i don't think the dnc is dumb enough to throw him up there knowing that the right would jump all over it, and if this is another asinine attempt (not by you) to characterize the left as "terrorist sympathizers" i may very well throw up.

oh, certainly nothing against you, just like i said, i don't like that the main source of info on the guy is a pundit.

Exactly. It seems quoting bloggers who have a nasty habit of exaggeration can kill ones credibility. One of the great things about the internet in the political realm....you can say whatever to whip people up into a frenzy. Facts are irrelevant in this age.

Schlussel also seems to be the only person who saw the streets of Dearborn "swarming with swastikas and anti-Semitic, anti-American signs." All I can find are people holding signs denouncing Israeli actions in Lebanon, and a lot of Lebanese flags.

yeah, google searching reveals either right wing blogosphere reaction or mainstream media accounts that don't corroborate claims of the Imam's radicalism. So maybe this is a non-story.

This is basic political pandering. With the loss of so many auto industry jobs the Ds can no longer count on the union vote to win Michigan and the black vote in Detriot is not big enough to carry the state. They have to have Michigan to win the presidency.

Something wrong with pandering? The GOP faces a dilemma after pandering to Hispanics but then many taking a hardline stance on immigration, etc. Rove himself said winning over Hispanics was the key to the GOP's future.

What is wrong with pandering? It's happened even before we were a nation. Nothing illegal about it. And it only works if people believe it. Don't believe it and there is nothing to worry about.

yeah, because every muslim school is only there to groom terrorists. that would be like saying catholic schools are there to groom child molesters. try again

You have tapes of Catholic schools preaching the molestation of children? I have never seen them.

I have seen tapes of muslim schools preaching death to Israel, death to America.

Not a very good comparison.

okay i'll bite, not a great comparison. regardless, there is nothing to show that this man, or anything that he is a part of, in anyway preaches terrorism

you find me something that shows that this man, or the foundation that he supports, are in any way radical, and I will concede, fair? I believe that everything that I have presented has shown the contrary. So once more I say, try again.

Here you go
I've highligthed a few things that I would consider radical.

Al-Husainy heads the Karbalaa Islamic Education Center mosque in Dearborn, Mich., one of the largest Shiite mosques in North America. He is an open admirer of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini - under whose rule Americans were held hostage for 444 days.

During last summer's Israel-Hezbollah war, al-Husainy led rallies in Dearborn in support of the Lebanese terrorist group.

At one rally, at Dearborn's Bint Jebail Cultural Center - named for the stronghold in south Lebanon from which Hezbollah rockets rained on Israel. Al-Husainy was among several who delivered hate-filled, anti-American rhetoric. He cheered as others called for the hastened destruction of the Jews.
