Rafeal Palmerio

"I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period," he said. "Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program."

Ahh, the Barry Bonds defense. :disappointed:

To be honest, I really hope he is being truthful and that he just took the wrong over the counter medication or something. The last thing baseball needs is for steroids to become a hot topic again.

Jeez... It is going to become a hot topic again. There were all the debates before over wether or not he is HOF worthy, this is just gonna strike it right back up.

Here's a quote from Palmero's Congressional testimony:

Palmeiro's statement: "Good morning, Mr. Chairman and members of the committee. My name is Rafael Palmeiro and I am a professional baseball player. I'll be brief in my remarks today. Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never. The reference to me in Mr. Canseco's book is absolutely false. I am against the use of steroids. I don't think athletes should use steroids and I don't think our kids should use them. That point of view is one, unfortunately, that is not shared by our former colleague, Jose Canseco. Mr. Canseco is an unashamed advocate for increased steroid use by all athletes."

I'm so glad the pot and kettle finally met.

I hate that. We lived in Ft Worth from 88-91 and went to alot of Rangers games. Palmero was one of my favorite players at the time. Oh well, just another player with a tainted career

He will still be in the hall.

Sadly you are probably right. Both he and Bonds and all of these other guys who cheated to get whatever stats they got will make it in, while the alltime hits leader will never be in. :bad:

If you excluded HOF'ers because of steroid use, there would be no inductions into the hall from 2007 through 2020.

I don't know that it's THAT bad. The sad thing is that anybody that puts up any numbers will be under suspicion.

Alls I'm saying is all players now will still make it into the hall... But given that many of the big hitters from the last decade have been juiced (I know not all of them; guys like Griffey, etc.) I say we just let them in. People will recognize the 90's and early 00's as the steroids era is all.

Perjury?

The guy flat out lied under oath, in court, and to the American public already skeptical about baseball in general. After enduring a lockout, strike, the financial chasm that exists between franchises, and a massive steroid controversy that now looms over one of the two only memorable baseball moments in recent history (the HR chase of '98, with the "breaking of the curse" being a distant second), any remaining fans of baseball are now offered a weasly scam-artist who spat in the face of our justice system? All those unsure about Canseco and Bonds and MacGwire and who to believe can at least thank Palmeiro for removing any doubt.

I say, quit now, Rafey. Nobody wants to see you at the ballpark. No, wait. . . . .better yet, show up tonight so we all get the opportunity to let you know how we feel.

Context, Doc . . .

Of course what Palmeiro did was bad . . . When I said it might not "be that bad", I was responding to Milo's assertion that EVERYBODY had done steroids. All I was saying was that while there were probably a lot of users, I didn't think you could make a blanket statement.
