Here is a link to the article If Josh McDaniels departs, look no further than Bill O’Brien as his replacementThe Raiders hiring McDaniels could potentially lead to Bama OC leaving to fill the OC role for the patriots. I was reading an article yesterday that talked about this being a possibility. I will try to find it but it talked about how he is wanting to be the man that takes over the for the Patriots.
There is one common denominator. And until he is no longer there nothing will change. The Raiders hiring McDaniels could potentially lead to Bama OC leaving to fill the OC role for the patriots. Yep. Fans can dream but Saban just reloads both on and off the field. He's the evil genius running the evil empire. Until he goes, it's bama's world with the occasional but rare UGA sighting.I remember when Bama’s staff included Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin, Mel Tucker, Mario Cristobal and Billy Napier among others.
They reload coaches like they reload 5* recruits.
Unless the Evil Empire goes batshit crazy like our Vols, the drop after Saban retires/dies will probably not be as bad as we fans hope. It takes considerably more than a head coach to have a championship program. Coach jock sniffers will disagree.Yep. Fans can dream but Saban just reloads both on and off the field. The fans are largely already batshit crazy, and when the sacrificial lamb takes over after Saban and starts going 10-2 or (gasp) 9-3 every other year people will not accept it . There will be zero management of expectations. Hopefully this will send them into a downward spiral where the job is not looked at favorably by good coaches because they will never be able to reach the level Saban created.Unless the Evil Empire goes batshit crazy like our Vols, the drop after Saban retires/dies will probably not be as bad as we fans hope. Paying for a top level coach will never be a problem in Tuscaloosa. But you are correct, a 9-3 season will get a coach put on the road quickly. As much as I hate all things crimson, there is something to be said about not accepting mediocracy. If more of our fans quit hanging on to could have, should have, would have and pointing to meaningless stats, pumping sunshine perhaps the Vols could climb from the cellar in the SEC. Nothing about the Vol program screams total commitment to winning that is required to win championships. The fans are largely already batshit crazy, and when the sacrificial lamb takes over after Saban and starts going 10-2 or (gasp) 9-3 every other year people will not accept it . A lot of their fans are crazy, but it is amazing how docile they are now for the moment. I know a guy in Birmingham and he told me that for the last several years, they only get excited about 2-3 games per year...the SECCG and the playoff game(s). They don't even get juiced for the Iron Bowl anymore because they assume it is an automatic win, even though Auburn has beaten them one-third of the time since 2010.The fans are largely already batshit crazy, and when the sacrificial lamb takes over after Saban and starts going 10-2 or (gasp) 9-3 every other year people will not accept it . When they lost the title game to UGA, or even when they ended up on the outside looking in in 2019, I didn't get the impression they were upset or even disappointed. It is as though they woke up from a slumber and were like "Wait, we didn't win the title this year? Oh well, we will next year." The reason for that docile nature is because Saban is still there. I think they give a new coach 2 years to win a title, and if he doesn't there will be serious calls to run him off.
As long as he still ends up in the title game, I think they are OK. If he loses a regular season game and that loss costs them making the CFP, and he does that a couple of seasons in a row, I guarantee you he gets taps on the shoulder and a "he's getting old and has lost the fire" narrative gets going. They’ve definitely been more docile, but they’re still nuts. I even think if Saban starts a trend where he loses one every year that he shouldn’t, like aTm this season, the natives could get restless. I don’t foresee that happening, but it could .
Ahhh this is like the fifth straight year of this narrative. I love the VN off-seasonAs long as he still ends up in the title game, I think they are OK. It’s not that simple. The Saban rehabilitation OC program has always had great OCs that faltered as HCs. No reason to believe he won’t find another wayward great OC to revive, but a bad OC hire would definitely hurt bama if it somehow happened.Does it really matter at this point?
You could put a trained chimp as OC and Bama would still make the playoffs.
Now if Saban had eaten one too many oatmeal pies and made Botch the OC when he was on staff, then the Bama run would be over.
