Maybe I have a short memory, but I think Dee Williams may be better than Dale Carter. What do y'all think?

It's a good situation to have when there are people out there capable of big, explosive plays at any time: Gault, Pickens, Carter, Berry, now Williams.

He did not even play until the LSU game last year.

He needs to figure how to elude the punter, though. Ha

Dee is a great returner, might even be a better returner than Carter before it’s over. But Dale also played on defense and was a fearless player there. But I am glad we have Dee, he is the best returner since Carter for sure in my opinion. GBO

Dale averaged 10 yards per return and had zero TDs, Dee is averaging 21 per return and has 1TD. 21/attempt is likely not sustainable but if he keeps up a fraction of this pace he will certainly be considered better than Dale.

Personally I think Cam Sutton and Terry Fair were the best two of the modern era. I think Cam has the school record with 3 punts returned for TDs but don't quote me on that.

OP didn’t mention whether it was punts, kickoffs, or a combo. I think you are specifically referring to punts, but his kickoff returns were incredible. Think Florida with Vols winning 45-3 in what was one of the greatest kickoff returns in Tennessee history.

Since Dee has only had 5 tackles and 1 KO return attempt in his career, I just assumed he was comparing them as punt returners. That's the only thing Dee does for UT.

What ………? Dale Carter was on another level, and went on to become NFL rookie of the year. Carter was a head hunter and ball hawk, in addition to his return game.

We're talking about as a ount returner only as the OP clarifies a few posts down. With 5 career tackles, nobody is comparing Dee as a defensive back to Dale Carter. Dee only returns punts for UT, so that is the only basis for comparison.

Ole number 44 (Bobby Majors) didn't have world class speed, but his vision made him one hell of a punt returner.
