Gregg Doyel is reporting that several coaches are questioning how Ramar Smith could possibly be eligible. This will be interesting to watch.

Link?

What have you heard on this hat? I heard he was on track and in decent shape?

Gregg Doyel is an idiot. I'm not saying Smith has academic issues, just that Doyel is an idiot

On to Ramar, he is in a weird situation. He is only 1-2 points from getting a qualifying ACT score, but that isn't the bigger problem. If he improves more than 2-3 points on his ACT, the clearinghouse will red flag him and he won't qualify. He also has to get his transcript "ducks" in a row. He did miss a month of school when he trasnferred back to MLK HS. If he can get those 2, he will qualify.

It's in his Dribbles column on cbssportsline.com. I've always thought his travels would red flag his transcript. The New York Times expose' earlier this year is certainly going to cause increased scrutiny of questionable academic files. That said, Coach Pearl is a very saavy guy. I have to think he wouldn't give out the scholarship if he wasn't confident that Ramar's academics are in order.

Wasn't it Gregg Doyel who broke the story that Buzz was going to UK on Tubby's staff? Maybe he has been talking to Buzz again.

Do you post on cbssportsline.com's message boards?

I used to before the idiots came.

Doyel may be an idiot, I don't think so. However, there's no doubt that he's plugged in. If he says coaches are complaining, they are.

Talked to some of my friends on the West Coast. They tell me that USC passed on recruiting Ramar because of academic questions. If Tim Floyd passed on him, there has to be a pretty serious cloud on his transcript. Tim always errs on the side of giving a kid a chance.

Is this very likely to happen or what?

Idk how likely it is to happen. I don't think Pearl would have offered him if he didn't think he had a decent chance at least. He hasn't offered Tatum and he has academic issues.

Could be one of the saaviest recruiting moves in history. Locks Ramar up by pursuing him when other programs are laying off due to his academics, Ramar doesn't get cleared, frees up the scholarship for Tatum, Ramar gets some qualifying courses over the summer, offers one of the freed up scholarships from the trial to Ramar for the spring of next year. Crazy, but, then again, Bruce is a little more than unorthodox.

Tatum doesnt even think he'll qualify. Not everything Bruce does is perfect, you guys act like every decission he makes is perfect.

If you'll notice, he said "Could be".

....mark that down. The first slightly negative Pearl post.

Just to clear things up.....

0320, Tennessee will give Tatum a scholarship if he qualifies. They have already told him he will be offered once he gets the qualifying grades. The nonoffer has nothing to do with available schollys, Pearl will make room.

Mattvols, again you are wrong. Justin Young talked to Tatum earlier today and Cameron told him that he feels good about qualifying.

Here is the quote you read matt:

"I'll probably end up at Tennessee if I qualify," said Tatum. "I liked it there a lot. It's a good situation and they have a good thing going. It's a place that can get me focused academically and get me where I want to be on the court. They have a great coaching staff and Coach Pearl is great."

Where does he doubt that he will qualify?

I think the use of "if" imparts a fair amount of trepidation on his part.

There is a difference between "I may not qualify" and "I don't think I will qualify". He sees a possibility that he may not qualify, but that doesn't mean he thinks he won't qualify.
