Does anyone else wish for TV games that the team benches were set up on the side opposite the cameras so we could see what is happening with staff and players throughout the games???? Now that I’m having to watch home games on TV instead of at TBA, I feel like I am being cheated out of valuable game information. We only ever see — if anything at all — the backs of the heads of a few people. I want to see expressions and how everyone is reacting to what’s happening on the court, NOT a row of a few media members sitting behind tables. Ugh.

Can someone tell me why the players/staff can’t be on the TV-visible side of the court?

It’s just the design of the arena. at least it’s not Vandys place.
Anyone know if the actual attendance so far for home games has been up to maximum allowed. I would like to go to the Vandy game in Nashville, but not sure is allowing fans in Memorial Gym.

No where near...
Averaging maybe 500-600 per game

speaking of attendance it seems like despite Covid-19 more ppl are attending Vol games then lady Vol games

The Lady Vol games are looking real empty compared to the mens....4,000 max allowed but only 2,000 attending

attendance is always something recruits kinda pay attention to love for TBA to be filled to the 4,000 that they set

why don't they have a few Sat. games? I know the men normally play on Sat., but when they are on the road, why not have a Lady Vol game on a Sat. afternoon?

Over the years i’ve seen the women play then the men play the night cap. it seems to draw bigger crowds for the women but the men’s crowd gets to see the women’s team too for parts if not all the game.

I think Uconn has done this in the past or UNC it was one of the schools that had both a pretty good men’s and women’s team

I thought the SEC pretty much stuck to a Sunday/Thursday schedule, with the rare ESPN Big Monday or Big Tuesday televised game.

I also think the LV fans tend to be older. Usually a good bit of grey hair in there. Understandably most are sitting this one out.

I'm impressed with the virus mitigation efforts taken by UT. It's pretty easy to observe spacing. Seat spacing is done for you. Pretty much every fan wearing a mask properly
(always a handful that don't get the nose part right). Hand washing stations out the ying-yang. Also, the folks that host games are really friendly, much more than I remember. Very welcoming atmosphere. Commendable. I think we focus a lot on the game and take for granted everything else that has to happen to put it on display. My hats off to those folks.

I believe it has to do with proximity controls on the number of people occupying court side space. The systems servicing the clock and media (TV) are in a fixed location. The teams used to surround that scorers table where a lot of those systems reside. With todays spacing controls, that was no longer allowable. So, to reduce the people concentration in that area, the teams and their support staff were moved to the other side of the court. You could see the officials struggling a little with the layout. They, out of habit, kept signaling the infractions to the team side but the scorekeeper was on the other side. I think it frustrated some of them a little.

I have to admit I’m a little worried about future attendance — AFTER the pandemic is over. I’m one of those fans who, until this season, rarely missed games at TBA. The sense of duty to make the 200-mile round-trip drive for games was so strong that I would feel tremendous guilt if I had to miss one.

But due to COVID-19 I won’t be attending any games this year, and because I am no longer compelled to go as if an invisible force is pulling me to Knoxville, I have a feeling I may find it a little easier to stay home in the future. And I figure there are other fans who are feeling the same way.

There will never, ever be a better way to see a Lady Vols game than in person, where you can feel the thunderous vibrations of the fans during an exciting game. No question about that. But I fear the spell TBA has over fans may be broken, and Kellie is going to have to work HARD to get everyone back into the habit of traveling to TBA. I hate it because it certainly isn’t anyone’s fault, but this is my fear.

I think Tennessee's attendance will be fine if Kellie can start a tradition of winning again. There's probably not much incentive right now to put in a lot of effort to see games for a middling team. She needs to turn the program around, and if she does so, I have no doubt the fans will come back. Everyone likes a winner. Look at what Dawn did for SC or Vic for MSST for attendance...two programs without the prior winning history of Tennessee.

I'm happy to hear you're attending and feeling safe! I might be going to some games myself if I lived in or very near Knoxville, but having a couple of health issues that put me in the high risk category makes me hesitant to travel. I typically need to make a pitstop once each way, and so, for now, it's better for me to not have to manage all that I need to manage. I envy you, though, and hope you're cheering loud for the rest of us!

Definitely true about Dawn and Vic. The turnaround they've made with their fanships is nothing short of amazing. I'm particularly proud of Dawn, because South Carolina had NOTHING before she got there. NOOOOTHIIIIIIING. And now? WOW! My hope is that after this season and, hopefully, after the pandemic is over, Kellie will be more settled into her job and the community and be able to start making inroads into recruiting new fans to come to home games.

Think about it. Since Kellie has been at Tennessee her life as a coach has been crazy -- PLUS she has a very young daughter to tend to. Last season probably feels like a blur to her, and now this season is in constant flux. Coaches are really, really earning their paychecks these days, for sure.

As for turning the program around, I honestly feel like that'll happen with some added quickness, but you're right: We have GOT to win games like WV and Texas and at least a couple of Top 10 programs.
