whatever happened to Eric Still and Eric Swanson.
1) I will be in Knoxville tomorrow for the first time in about 10 years. I will also have my wife in tow as this will be her first Tennessee game. Her only experience has been Denver Bronco games which she believes to be the ultimate football happening. I will try to log in tomorrow of any of you guys want to try to meet prior to ko.
2) Driving in today I was listening to Cowherd talking about two exceptional coaches that consistently do more with less, Mike Leach and Mark Mangino. It occurred to me that they were on the same staff at OU. Suddenly Venerables looks a whole lot better.
3) In the course of the above thought process I began to consider Mike Leach as a viable candidate to replace Phil. I know this is Lex's guy and until now I never took him seriously. If you have ever been to Lubbock then you know what a miracle it is that he can even get quality kids to visit much less commit. The guy completely changed the culture at OU and turned TT around in a relatively short time.
4) A guy that hasnt been mentioned, but Cowherd spoke about was Mike Riley. I dont remember him turning down Alabama, but it seems to have happened.
5) It seems as though the whole nation has Bama on upset alert. I picked this game as the one to introduce my wife to college football before the season started. I didnt know bama would be #2 and that we would be as miserable as we have been obviously. However, I felt good about our chances until I found out that David Climer picked Tennessee. I want to believe, but in the end I think Alabama is too physical and Saban will outcoach Phil.
6) Ther rumors swirling tht Phil mandated JC start over NS seemed too outlandish to be true. But after thinking about it I have decided it must be true. We all know about Phil's efforts to reward the upperclassman with playing time even though the youngsters have more talent, so is it really that hard to believe?
7) Rumor upon rumor that Phil will step down any day now, or announce at the end of the season, or any number of ways that all culminate in Phil's departure. I simply cant bring myself to believe it. I think they will have to carry him out on a stretcher ala' Johnny Majors.
