This all sounds way too familiar. Just because you scored over a 1300 on the SAT doesn't mean you have to be a doctor right now. And you may want to be one again after figuring out who you really are. You're a man. Do what you feel is right.
Oh yes, they have high aspirations for me. I used to really do well in school and that set the expectations really high. They'd probably only be happy with something like officer's school and that's not really what I want. When my parents figured out I had given up on being a doctor they almost stopped helping pay for school.
Trust me, do what you want to do, or you'll always regret it. I made a few decisions with my folks in mind in my early 20's that I regret to this day.
If you're not happy doing what you're doing, what the **** does it matter if someone else is happy with your path.
