Anyone think he can get to 300 wins. He currently has 294. Lately it seems like Arizona is trying as hard as they can to prevent him from getting there. I'm not sure he has enough left in him for another season, and this year it looks unlikely.

On another note, the Padres just swept the D-backs who were pitching their top 3 guys.

He absolutely has enough left in the tank to get there. Seems to me like I read something fairly recently which said he was leaning towards coming back next year. Unless he's in tremendous, unrelenting pain, I don't see how you can walk away when you're that close to 300 and you have a plus ERA like he does.

I don't know what is contract status is for next year, but if Arizona doesn't want him, somebody will. We could use him here in Atlanta, that's for sure.

Mike Mussina has an outside shot, but you are probably right.

having to back off the juice has probably hurt Johnson.

you really think the Braves would gamble on another aging, getting injured more and more often pitcher?

I like Randy Johnson. I hope he does get to 300 and that question isn't a knock on the Braves necessarily, nor is a knock on Randy Johnson. Just a realistic question.

2009 became a total wash for the Braves when Hudson went down. The ace of the staff next year is going to be a 23 year old who's won 14 games in his career; the Braves are going to need bodies for the rotation. I'd take a one-year flier on Johnson if he was willing to work cheap in return for a shot at 300 wins.

he probably won't have to work cheap.

Right now he is 10-9 with a 4.02 era. He also has 148 K's in 152 innings....not too shabby for a 45 year old pitcher...I think he's got another year left in the tank. Unless the Braves think they can win it next year some team who does will sign him and pay him more than Atlanta.

I don't really think he'll end up here either. I just used the Braves as an example of a team that could use him. Somebody will want him; he'll get his 300 wins.

You know its funny you mention it. A sports radio station down here was talking about how down stats are across the board in the majors this year. The host proposed it was because baseball finally started testing for amphetamines. :ermm:
