What was the move like coming to Kentucky just before signing day?

It was pretty smooth. He was nows a lot of the Kentucky in-state recruits, as that was his area at Tennessee.

Why come to UK?

1. It's in the SEC.
2. Believes in Coach Brooks' abililty.
3. To coach QBs, his interest.
4. It's close to family.

What do you see in UK's QBs?

We have ability in Pulley and Woodsen, the 2 freshman QBs are very talented, would have recruited them at Tennessee. Was shocked that he hadn't seen Michael Hartline while he was at UT.

Probably no one here is going to agree with me, but I think on the coaching trade with Kentucky, Roper for Sanders, Kentucky got the better end of the deal.

From most accounts Sanders was a good position coach, just not a great coordinator. Roper on the other hand, hasn't established himself as a position coach from what I can tell.

Pulley would be much better utilized at wideout, and the Louisville game really showed me that Woodson has some potential, but UK is two years away from having the speed to compete.

Sanders is a good position coach, but most of us are glad he is not UT's coordinator any longer.

Your observation is backwards on Sanders. If I had to pick one I would say he is a better coordinator than position coach. And, he is not very good at either. As the positoin coach for QB's, Sanders was responsible for the development of QB's and there was no development at that position while he was coach. He was not disciplined enough as a position coach. He was too lax on fundamentals.

I think Sanders will do just fine for Kentucky.

I would say "good luck" to Sanders, but he is now at Kentucky, so I wish him no success....sorry McCat, but the rivalry is just that and does not transcend a coach or a player.

Frankly, if RS is "on his own" he probably will do better. I've said for years if we unplugged Fulmer's microphone our offense would probably looked better.

I agree. I think Sanders, ran the offense Phil wanted.

Sanders was a successful position coach for 10 years or more before he ever became a coordinator.

What rivalry? A rivalry requires competition. Kentucky is a rival for UT the way France is a rival for Germany.

I have to agree with hatvol. Not much of a rivalry. Now if he went to Vandy... that would be a rivarly. :biggrin2:

yeah yeah, deride all you want. I just get the feeling that things are about to turn, though. That's the definition of a true fan.

In this case of Kentucky football, it REALLY is the definition of a real fan. Who knows though?? I would have bet you anything that our streak against Kentucky would have been broken before the streak against Vandy.

Its ok Brian. Michael Jordan's old roommate came to Knoxville /w promises of moving up in the favorite sport of the Commonwealth, and many of us had that feeling...

Of course, NOW things HAVE turned /w a Pearl at the helm.

I want UK football to get out of the gutter, maybe things ARE headed up... just don't hold your breath. The Pole Cats best chance in YEARS to beat the Vols was this year, @ Commonwealth... and they blew it.

Gotta stay positive. I can respect that.

I'm very pleased with this year's recruiting class. I made some observations in the thread below:

Yes, they did. 2005 was really weird in that we lost 25 players, most of them starters, to season-ending injury, and if we'd had them, then the outcome might have been a little different.

I was really excited to watch Beech play in person... only to find that he was injured. :(
