does anyone actually think that our coaches and administration are smart enough to get rid of him. our offense will score some points against these no names we play, and fulmer will say "now we are executing, it is not randy's fault."

he will spit some b.s and they will bring him back year after year. hell, when was the last time we had a coaching change that came from a firing?

answer that one freak. i would like to know.

it doesnt happen. we are to conservative. never shake things up.

and until we do we will stay the Tennessee Puntateers.

I thought Barry told Fulmer he was leaving for the job at ND, and when the coach got caught lieing about his Resume', Fulmer wouldnt take him back?

Splitting hairs maybe, but I think Barry left.

volbrian, I might be wrong about that. I don't think he was openly fired but I had always heard we ran him off.

hadn't they just brought in Stephens the year before and demoted Barry to "co" o-line coach?

He might have left on his own but I always heard he just saw the writing on the wall. I could be wrong.

I could be too. I also remember JRS being brought in as TE coach, a position he held while at UF. I think after Barry left, he got the TEs and Tackles and somebody else got the Guards and Centers.

I think it was something like that. I think Barry was a better coach than JRS.

Barry Resigns From Vols Football Coaching Staff

Barry Coached Vols' Offensive Line Since 1998

Jan. 10, 2003

Tennessee offensive line coach Mike Barry announced his resignation Friday from the Vols coaching staff, ending a five-year tenure in Knoxville. The Chicago native has been in coaching for 34 years and plans to follow other opportunities either in or out of the coaching profession.

"Mike did a good job for us and I wish him well in his pursuits," head coach Phillip Fulmer said. "He was a part of our national championship team, two SEC championships and three Eastern Division titles, and I appreciate his contributions."

Barry came to the Vols from Southern California, where he was a part of the Trojans' staff for five seasons. He previously coached at Colorado and was a member of Bill McCartney's staff when the Buffaloes won the 1990 national championship. For his work with Tennessee's 1998 national championship team, Barry received an award as the Southeastern Conference outstanding offensive line coach.

"I want to thank Phillip and the University of Tennessee for the opportunity to be a part of this fine program," Barry said. "I enjoyed working with Coach Fulmer, his staff and especially the players. It is truly a great place. I simply feel at this time there are other opportunities to pursue in or out of coaching."

In May 2002, Barry was inducted into the Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame, recognized for his contributions to the renowned high school league in America's third-largest city. Barry, who began his coaching career in the high school ranks, had other college coaching stints at Southern Illinois, Arizona and Iowa State. He also coached professionally for the San Antonio Gunslingers and New Orleans/Portland Breakers of the USFL.

The rumor was he was going to take over the position at ND (when that coach they hire was dismissed for giving a fake resume). When that fell through, he had no place to go.

But he did coach our OL for the MNC

Tight ends coach Mark Bradley was the last to be canned. I think he critized Fulmer or something. PS the EX UT Varsity football players that I know are critical of Fulmer and especially Sanders. I was recently hiking in the smokies and heard Tim Irwin on a sports radio show and he didn't seem very pleased with the program

No doubt.

The offensive line was a real strength of the team when Barry was here....it hasnt been since IMO.

Charlie, you are correct. When Tennessee scores against Vandy, Kentucky, and Memphis, it will business as usual. Tennessee coaches will say that the offense is back on track and they have an identity. Oh yeah, and they are executing.

They differed largely in schematic opinions.
