We know saban is #1. Where is Butch? This will tell us a lot about where the program is going.

How do you rank a coach that's only coached 3 OOC games and no SEC games?

Premature thread. Let a season occur for some of these 1st year guys before we tee this up. Even then it's subjective seeing as though the 1st year guys took over bad teams and this poll won't take the talent discrepancies into consideration. Better just to scrap the thread in its entirety.

It will be more interesting, I think, to rank the performance of all the first year coaches (i.e. Bielema, Malzahn, Stoops, Jones...and even maybe non-conference guys like MacIntyre, Dykes, Doeren, etc.) at the end of the season.

That would be a more valid poll. Long tenured coaches compared to first year guys is apples and oranges. Imagine a poll like this after Saban's first year at Bama. The poll would have been laughable 5 years later.

Yeah, I remember a question like this on here a few years back (right after Dooley's first year, I think), where more than one poster was angrily arguing with me that Dooley should be ranked ahead of Mark Richt.

No one likes premature.

Lol, Butch and Malzahn have done nothing at this point to be ahead of coaches like Muschamp and Freeze

The way I would approach this is ... Who would I want if I woke up from a dream and one of the other SEC coaches were our coach starting out this year. What order would I want?

1. Saban
2. Spurrier
3. Richt
4. Sumlin
5. Miles
6. Franklin
... the rest no.

:p Disclaimer: As bad as we all love to hate Franklin, I know this place would be crazy about the guy if he was coaching here. Anybody that can inject life into that coffin in Nashville is interesting. If the guy wins again this year with those mid-major players, then he goes further up the list.

You'd put Miles below Richt?

You can't rank guys who've only coached two or three games against guys who've been in the league for years. Maybe you could rank Bielema, since he's at least coached in a real conference, but it's ridiculous to even speculate about Jones, Malzahn, and Stoops.
