1. The Cheater KY
2. The Don UF
3. The Stall Vandy
4. The Pearl UT
5. The Fox UGA
6. The Stan MSU


How would you rate them?

How bout a top 5......6 is an odd number for a list......

I like Fox but he really hasnt had enough time or done enough to be graded. I would put Stallings over by Pearl just because of longevity and similar accomplishments.

If you're not just doing reactionary rankings based on this year's pathetic results, Pearl goes in at 3rd behind Cal and Donovan.

if calipari could "coach", memphis would not have blown the national championship against kansas. there were some tactical errors at the end of that game beyond the free throw shooting.

i don't know what the fascination is with cal. he can recruit, which is part of the job. but, i can't find anyone who can tell me that he recruits within the rules and keep a straight face.

as far as "coaching" would go, i take several others within the SEC over cal. x's and o's are not his strength.

This. Cal is a great recruiter, he is an OK coach.

i know i am biased, but i think donovan is #1 on that list.

he's taken teams to three national championship games, winning two of them.

the list of sec coaches with two national titles or more is only two names long. (donovan and rupp).

he's done this at florida and i can tell you with a great deal of honesty that most people down here have no clue what a basketball is.

before donovan, florida won 1 sec title and made the ncaa tourney 5 times. they never won the sec tourney.

donovan has 3 sec titles, 3 sec tourney titles and made the ncaa tourney 10 times.

when you consider where he has accomplished this, i am still stunned by it.

1. Calipari-still think he will always be a Tiger at heart.
2. Stallings-if he had Pearls players over the last few years, perhaps he would have won it all

I agree. Hard to rate anyone above a coach with two NCAA titles. Cal is a great recruiter, but has no titles.

Why so much love for Calipari? If he couldn't even make a final four with the talent he had on last year's team, then I'm really not that impressed with the guy.

in fact, upon further reflection, not only should donovan be #1 on the list of current coaches, but donovan is easily one of the top five sec basketball coaches of all time.

only six coaches have won a national title in the SEC.

adolph rupp
tubby smith
rick pitino
joe b. hall
nolan richardson
billy donovan

only two of those, rupp and donovan, have multiple titles. i don't see how you can rank a coach without a national title ahead of someone with two.

it's obvious that you would have to rank rupp #1. but, i could make a really strong argument that donovan should be #2......all time in the SEC.

SAme as you. I would love to see the number 4 guy on that list replaced by a great coach.
